UnowPriceless hyped garbage
Steineded How sad is this?
Megamind To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
Aubrey Hackett While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
Vladimir Savija Honestly, when I started watching this movie I didn't expect much and the rate on IMDb was pretty low (6.5), but something about plot pushed me forward so I choose to watch it anyway. Movie surely has overstep my expectations. It is not perfect but in this time when comedy lost it's way and became totally dumb I had a few good laughs and that was enough for me to rate 9. I would say that this is probably Joe Carnahan's finest work, and that he's done a nice job. If you are looking for movie that will be interesting, keep your attention for whole time, but still relax you and make you laugh than by choosing this one you shouldn't mistake.
NateWatchesCoolMovies Joe Carnahan's Stretch opened to zero marketing, no publicity, just quietly snuck onto iTunes and Netflix without any hooplah whatsoever. Madness. For me it's in the top ten of 2014. Carnahan, ever the inventive maestro, channels the feverish action and intensity he brought to his awesome Smokin Aces in this non stop night ride about a hard luck limo driver who's forced to take on a variety of weird, crazy clients in the hopes of one big tip that will help him pay off his sizeable gambling debt, due in 24 hours. So begins a breakneck roller coaster ride through LA's gleaming underworld of clubs, drugs, cops and oddities, and what a fun ride it is. Patrick Wilson, a wicked actor, plays the driver, who's also a struggling actor, a running gag which actually proves to be quite handy. He's excellent, with a snappy rappor, likable underdog quality and manic survival instinct when he gets in the hot zone. Jessica Alba nicely underplays his tomboyish dispatcher. The performance of the film however, is Chris Pine. He plays Roger Karos, the richest client of the night, a clinically insane, scotch guzzling, cocaine devouring S&M fanatic with a destructive wild side that's the highlight of the film. It's a mystery to me why Pine is uncredited, as he's like the second lead, but no matter, his loss. He gives us a crazy eyed, hedonistic prick of a brat that is the ultimate beautiful disaster. James Badge Dale is great as a cop on our heroes tail.Ed Helms turns in a mouthy, almost Jim Carrey esque performance as the ghost of the previous limo driver, a sassy voice of mocking conscience for our hero. Ray Liotta and Norman Reedus are great, showing up briefly as Ray Liotta and Norman Reedus. The movie deals with whether things are predestined, or whether we have a modicum of control on where are lives are heading, never really coming to a marked decision on the matter, but showing us a character who starts off as a maligned putz, who in a single night, takes the steering wheel of his life, makes a few violent jerks and elevates his dreary life into a plane worth living in. If that isn't a big eff you to fate, I don't know what is. Carnahan comes up with another winner with Stretch. I just wish it was better marketed, so more people knew about it upon its release.
AliceofX The only thing I did not like about Stretch is that the identity of Pink Minx is so predictable. Of course it was going to be Charlie. But that is really the only loose link and other than that Stretch is the kind of crazy, funny ride that never makes you bored.Personally, Jessica Alba really surprised me as for once she played a character that did not seem to be as dumb as a rock.Stretch is consistently good for what it is, an action comedy. Especially when you compare it with what else passes for "good" in that genre these days. It occupies that Above the Average space by managing to be both smart and funny, just below the Really Good which it, sadly, never managed to reach.
carbuff Okay folks, I think we've got a winner here. Strange, different, odd, unpredictable, action-packed, humorous, a bit crude here-and-there, and ultimately charming. I love offbeat stuff that's well-written and ultimately hopeful, and this hidden gem is right up there with the best. A classic "weirdest night of my life" movie that delivers in all respects. I really feel the need to give this movie more than a perfect 10, but since I can't, I'll just have to gush a bit more about how entertaining, deadpan, and satisfying this movie was, with never a dull moment and a solid finish. Also, the bits where "The Hoff" and Ray Liotta lampoon themselves are pretty great. Once again, an obviously relatively low budget movie comes through like few big budget productions ever do. It's downright strange how often the quality and intelligence of a movie are inversely proportional to its financing--I guess when you've got less to work with, you've got to make sure everything counts. Two thumbs up, and then the toes too.
