Alex Rider (Alex Pettyfer) is a regular teenager with a regular uncle. However when his uncle is killed, he finds that his uncle was actually a British super spy. He reluctantly joins MI6 in the footstep of his uncle. Wealthy Darrius Sayle (Mickey Rourke) proposes to donate super computers called Stormbreaker to the schools, but MI6 suspects foul play.This is definitely some sort of James Bond jr. It just does it so badly. Alex Pettyfer is a pretty boy for the screaming girldom. However he is little more than that. And he joins so reluctantly that it grates. Alicia Silverstone is misused here as a nanny. It may be better if she was actually the mom. Mickey Rourke is playing the villain with glee. He's a cartoon, but considering the kiddie fare, it may be a good thing. All of it is rather too silly to watch.

OK i admit im not a huge fan of the alex rider series but i did admit that stormbreaker could make a good film. so when it came out i decided to check it out, i have consequently lost 1.5hours of my life THAT I CAN NEVER HAVE BACK!! there were so many plot holes it hurt i shall now attempt to list the most obvious. 1 why was the access to MI6 in a public photobooth? surely someone would have noticed the huge flashes of light and that certain people never left it..also Alex Rider is not a member of MI6 so does that mean other random members of the public can just waltz in? 2 Jack starbright's appalling fight with Missi pyle's character = what the hell? it is totally pointless and not even in the book. 3 the character of Alex is a travesty he practically gives his identity away in the first 5 seconds "my uncle was a security guard, he was killed and i'll find out who did it" well duh they just did it to his uncle! he might as well have said ..hi im Alex..my uncles replacement!and the whole bicycle chase scene had me crying with laughter.. 4 Smithers in a toy shop!?...er so the man who makes all the secret gadgets for MI6 works in a toy store..yer i can see that happening..NOT!! 5 what kind of martial arts security guard falls for such a stupid trick like the "bowing scene" im sorry but that really was bad 6 all of the characters were rushed,stereotypical and even the great actors like Mickey Rouke and Bill Nighy were restricted by the appalling director and were turned into cartoons. Alex was wooden,Missi was a joke, Jack was completely out of character and Sabina was not only badly portrayed by some hammy second rate actress but she Wasn't EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE THERE!!! honestly i don't know how antony horrowitz could have stood there and approve of the shambles made of a book,that although i think not that good, had such great potential. the entire film was rushed, according to Mr Horrowitz the reason for this was to get to the end scene...er what for? the hammy horse scene? the lame death of Sayle? the bad parachute scene? the pigeon getting shot? what? what? what was there at the end that we all missed!!?? the end credits maybe? (best part of the film) a waste of characters,waste of good acting potential,waste of money and a waste of time save yourself from this utter waste of space and do not watch!!!!

I am actually astounded that this movie isn't in the bottom 100. Honestly, I never thought I would see a movie that wasn't on the bottom 100 that would make "The Happening" look good. But wow.If you enjoy seeing crappy movies that have good budgets, see this (especially if you've read the books).Seriously though here are the elements that make it bad. It is a spy thriller, these are typically a parody of themselves (bond etc..). First off, the movie overdoes the parody, and then overdoes that about 50 more times. I have read the first book, I am not obsessed with it and I can guarantee that if I had never read the book I would have felt the same way. In theory the movie did a good job if you see the movie, and then read the books and get similar pictures of the characters as you saw them in the movie. Well some characters were OK (Wolf) some were just off par a tad (Mr Blunt...?)Overall very little of it made any sense why it would happen. Half of the decisions made no sense either.I don't usually say movies are actually BAD. I usually spend ages pointing out all the flaws, but at the end of all of it say 'still worth 12 bucks'. You are wasting money if you watch this film, luckily I watched it on TV.

A young kids uncle is killed and he finds out his uncle was a secret agent and he is then trained himself to stop a billionaire madman who is going to wipe-out half of the world with a computer virus. Rider poses as a computer nerd and gets inside the lions den and tries to prevent the madness from taking coarse.I really liked this film, I can't imagine why it wasn't a huge success, instead of the flop it became. Here in America it barely surfaced. I think it is very close in comparison to the likes of the Bond films and has a lot of tongue in cheek comedy, great direction, great acting, great effects, gadgets, explosions, fights, and so much to offer, its a million times better than those god-awful Cody banks films with Frankie Muniz. I just don't get why it didn't make it big.Geoffrey Sax did an amazing job as director and I was really impressed with it. I must give credit to Donny Yen for choreographing so many great fight scenes here. Acting wise it was just full of greatness, Ewan McGregor, Alicia Silverstone, Bill Nighy, Robbie Coltrane and Missi Pyle all did so good. The legendary Mickey Rourke was flawless here. Wow, what can I say about Alex Pettyfer, that kid should be a super star, he is amazing, he was around 15 when he got the part in this film, and had very little acting experience, but he really gets it. Great job, much respect to him.If you like action and the spy movies with fights, explosions and all sorts of twists and turns this film would be one to not miss, don't let the hype of its failure or the fact that a kid is the hero stop you from seeing it. 5/10 stars (and thats good for me)
