Claysaba Excellent, Without a doubt!!
Stevecorp Don't listen to the negative reviews
Matrixiole Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Wizard-8 I wonder if Christian Slater - who once was a big star in major Hollywood movies - gets more depressed with every direct to DVD movie he's been doing for the past few years. Don't get me wrong - I do enjoy a lot of direct to DVD movies. And this one has some merit, such as some interesting locations as well as some colorful and likable performances by the supporting cast (Ving Rhames, James Cromwell, and Sean Bean). Slater, on the other hand, seems less than enthusiastic, almost as if he's gritting his teeth all through the movie. It's probably due to a couple of factors that ultimately sink things. The movie looks pretty cheap; probably most of the budget was blown rounding up that memorable cast of actors. A bigger problem is that the movie isn't very exciting. The action sequences come across as flat and without punch for the most part. And there's somewhat less action than you might think. I've seen a lot worse, but I'm still surprised that a major Hollywood studio (Metro Goldwyn Mayer) picked this up for distribution.
karenjones23 liked this movie because it was action and no complicated plot. Some films try to be to clever, and this one works because you know the cast and like them from other films and TV , they have acted in. I am a huge fan of Slater and i like the fact he isn't a pretty boy trying to play the hero as a James bond actor would. I chose this movie because of being mainly a fan of his, and that least in this movie he doesn't get killed off half way through. If you want to watch something easy to comprehend and don't mind a few mistakes here and there, like the fact it isn't full of the f word every sentence you'll enjoy it. This as an edge of old eighties action movies and I believe that if rich folk in the future, want to play war, it is possible that the outline plot of this film may become a reality. Money does buy everything and that's the point of this movie. Slater does his best with what he as been given and wouldn't be bad in one of the expendables movies , this film as an edge of what expendables delivers on a bigger budget.
Robert E Gould The actors in this movie have all been in big box office successes' so whatever possessed them to think this one would be a good career move? I fortunately watched this on a PVR set and was able to fast forward every time I felt vomit in my mouth. It is advertised as an adventure comedy, you need to take this description with a pinch of salt, which incidentally will help with the bad taste it will leave you with after viewing. It was a thoroughly poor and disappointing movie, bad action sequences, awful acting and terrible special effects. The movie budget is quoted at around $8 million and it made $1,572,040 at the box office...my question is how come it made so much?
David_Brown "Soldiers Of Fortune" is about millionaires who want to play soldier and end up getting involved in a real war. Of course, they all have different agendas, as we learn throughout the film. The problem is, this film has no idea if it wants to be a buddy comic film (see arms merchant Grimaud (Ving Rhames) paired up with video game designer 'Sin' (Dominic Monaghan)), or a serious action film, and basically is neither. It also has James Cromwell (NOT the bad guy for once), and the real baddie, Colin Meaney (playing well a mean ex-CIA agent named Mason, who sells himself to the highest bidder), basically collecting paychecks. The main reason to watch this film is to see Sean Bean (Dimidov), who turns in an excellent performance as a trader in precious metals, who starts out as a questionable character, and becomes a hero in the end. The worst performance belongs to Christian Slater (Craig McCenzie), who once again seems to think he is tough guy, but unless it is the cynical type (like in "Broken Arrow" or "Hard Rain") he is not. Spoilers ahead: Perhaps the worst part of the film is the ending where the "Soldiers Of Fortune" liberate an Eastern European Island from Mason, and the other bad guys, and save Cecilia (a stunning Oksana Korostyshevskaya). It was totally predictable about what would happen to each character, except who would end up with Cecilia? You think through most of the film, it would be Slater, but you realize that it was probably Bean, who ends up saving Cecilia's life, after a boating accident where she almost drowns (she plays "chicken" with a evil woman, and wins). Note: Dimidov and Cecilia hooking up, is not a given but after he throws away a piece of the metal he wanted, you can guess he will give up his lifestyle for her (particularly after he saved her life). Basically it is not worth your time, except to see Bean (for a change), survive and probably get the girl. 3 of 10 Stars.
