Reviews

Moustroll Good movie but grossly overrated
ShangLuda Admirable film.
Leoni Haney Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
Josephina Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
Osmosis Iron Brilliantly uses black and white, with hints of color to highlight certain aspects, much like the graphic novels it's based on. It's a neo-noir film with (not quite)superheroes.. in fact even heroes might be exaggerating, since there are no "Knights in shining armor" in this. There are however badass anti-heroes and a lot of sexy dames. This movie is ultra stylish, so even the most brutal acts of violence are beautiful to watch. It's probably the closest to a comic book literally coming to life on screen we're ever gonna get!
Bazan Beat This movie enters in the typical description of "style over substance". But what a style! the story is nothing over the top, but anyway, visually speaking its outstanding, specially if you consider that it was done in 2005, more than 10 years ago. Yeah, it have it's flaws and its very predictable but I think overall it is an acceptable film.
metalrage666 I first saw this when it first hit cinemas and only after I caught this again on late night TV, that remembered just how stupid Sin City really is. I'm not going to waste time by reiterating what it's all about as there are over 1500 reviews for that, so this is me simply weighing in on how dumb I feel this is.I get that this is taken from a comic book and this is supposed to be a faithful adaptation done in a film noir style but all that was running through my mind was just how pointless this entire movie is. What surprises me is just how many good actors signed up for this nonsense. Everything is in black and white except for the occasional colour splash by way of red shoes, red Cadillac, blue eyes, blonde hair etc etc. I never got the excessive violence and I've never really been a fan of vigilante justice movies. Violence itself doesn't bother me, but I'm not watching a horror movie here and there's more torture and gore in this than most horrors I've seen. Every male in this is designed as a mouth- breathing, blood-crazed waste of space and all the females are nothing more than scantily clad gun-toting, knife wielding whores. Practically everybody carries guns or some kind of concealed weapon, cops are worse than useless and virtually no one is ever held accountable for their actions. Cops pull people over for a broken tail light but no one cares about mass murder. I suppose that I'd be considered as unenlightened for hating such a one dimensional piece of crap like this and this review will be deliberately considered as unhelpful out of spite, but even with the unrelenting scenes of violence and indiscriminate killing strewn through the whole movie, it makes for a very boring experience and the ongoing narration of people's thoughts gets tiresome. The one star I gave this is apt for such a dumb movie.
Leofwine_draca Robert Rodriguez assembles an all-star cast for this grimy, bullet-laden, and rather depressingly downbeat film noir offering, which offers slim, testosterone-fuelled plot lines and violence that brims over the edge at every opportunity. To say too much is to spoil the effect; suffice to say that the black and white movie looks brilliant, with engaging scripting and fantastic acting from the principal line-up, and really puts across the look and feel of a hard-knuckle comic book. The casting is brilliant, with only a dodgy turn from a miscast Clive Owen ruining things; Bruce Willis's hardbitten cop is another fine addition to his stellar career whilst an unrecognisable Mickey Rourke has his best comeback in ages. The girls kick ass and the villains are slimy; in particular the loathsome bad guys are the best parts in the film. There's Nick Stahl as creepy paedophile the Yellow Bastard; Elijah Wood as a fantastic cannibalistic serial killer, and finally Benicio del Toro as a slimy woman-hater. The violence is endless and bone-breaking, with limb-lopping galore and all manner of gruesome torture to engage the crowd. Not sure of the rewatchability of the piece but for the first viewing, SIN CITY is a breath of fresh air.
