FeistyUpper If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
ShangLuda Admirable film.
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
petarmatic Pedophilia! Shining legal star of our times! I think it is worse to be a pedophile in the anglo-saxon world then a murderer. Hack, murderers are wanted and desired to be sent to the wars in the Middle East these days, ah, well since they are the good guys, like an American Sniper, let us make pedophiles real monsters! Sufficient to say that those people receive harsh sentences and they are well mistreated in jails all over the world both by jailers and the inmates.Ms. Zenovich explores probably one of the most known cases in the world as far as pedophilia goes. Her documentary is a masterpiece, by all means, but as I understand it had Roman Polanski arrested in Switzerland, and even now if I understand he is under investigation in Poland as he is making his newest film. I am not sure did she intended for him to be hunted again? It is for her to answer. The whole case was ridiculous, by the twist of fate, if he stayed in the USA and got sentenced, he could of been sent to the same prison where murderers of his pregnant wife are serving their life sentences. I am glad that he escaped and I scream from the top of my lungs LEAVE HIM ALONE! Didn*t he suffer enough? He is a survivor of Auschwitz for Gods sake! All in all I recommend this film strongly since pedophilia is getting such attention these days, and documentary is very well done albeit I think it hurted Mr. Polanski.
Peppermintfilms This documentary has an assemblage of facts and film footage that appear to have been thoroughly scrutinized. Part of the footage included defense attorney Dalton's explanations of how and why Polanski was forced to sign a document of guilt when he had clearly stated over and over again that he was innocent of the charges. Opening questions and answers from transcript testimony about the event seem to show two different stories being told. The facts were carefully presented so as not to side with either party but to recount the events leading up to and subsequent to the charges filed against Polanski. Sensationalism seems to be a big part of our culture's persona and we can choose to be swept away by our emotions or we can begin to put aside our filters of prejudice and fear and come to terms with actual events without theater calling the shots. This is the question that is haunting me after seeing this film.
nyclucky1201 The guy repeatedly raped a 13-year-old girl and sodomized her. Roman will always be a rapist and a child molester first and a director second. This is what defines him as a human being and it's been defining him ever since he committed the rape. Obviously, we don't know if this was his first or last one. This women could've simply been the only one coming forward. It's absolutely abominable that a respectable Western European country would help him avoid prosecution. It only shows complete lack of class and moral values. What's next, giving serial killers political asylum? There are so many excellent artists who are also quality people and they never had the chance to become successful during their lifetimes. Child molesters belong in jail, not among quality humans.
mercuryix2003 So speaks Roman Polanski in an interview given in 1969. In 1979, a year after he was on the run after being convicted of drugging and raping a child, he gave this far more graphic interview to novelist Martin Amis: "If I had killed somebody, it wouldn't have had so much appeal to the press, you see? But… f—ing, you see, and the young girls. Judges want to f— young girls. Juries want to f— young girls. Everyone wants to f— young girls!"This interview, nor his penchant for "young girls", makes it into this extremely biased "documentary". Even the title is dishonest "Polanski: Wanted and Desired". By who? It almost seems to imply that his victim actually "wanted him". I watched this, actually believing I was going to watch a documentary. Instead, I watched an hour and a half PR campaign about what a brilliant filmmaker Polanski is, along with long clips of his work (which has nothing to do with his case) and other people gushing over him. A long section of it is devoted to his tragic childhood and life. Finally, we reach the point where he is charged with drugging and raping a 13 year-old girl. The 13 year-old victim, and what he did to her (which I can't print here on IMDb), is diminished and devalued as much as possible. The filmmaker goes into great length about possible misconduct on the part of the prosecution and the judge (strangely, she doesn't talk about the nature of the sleazy plea bargain offered to the victim's family, or the fact that the child only agreed to it because she didn't want to be humiliated by talking about it in court. She also didn't want the stigma of being identified as a victim of rape.) This film comes across as a disturbed fan-pic made by a devotee of Polanski, who has total empathy for the victimizer she adores, and no empathy for the victim she disregards. I give this film one star, because it lies about what it is; it is not a documentary (which is supposed to report facts and be neutral) in any sense of the word. Instead, it comes across as a distorted valentine by a disturbed fan, justifying the actions of a disturbed individual. Its overall effect when you step back and look at it is frankly creepy.
