Synopsis

The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice, awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by new found allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

Reviews

Afouotos Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Rexanne It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
Cristal The movie really just wants to entertain people.
anselmdaniel This review contains spoilers.Resident Evil: Retribution is the sequel to Resident Evil: Afterlife. Resident Evil: Retribution is the fifth movie in the franchise and takes place after Resident Evil: Afterlife. Alice is captured and in a secret Umbrella Corporation laboratory. A team is assembled to rescue Alice in the laboratory. This movie does not fix the poor writing in the previous movies. The movie starts with the attack on the freighter that happens in reverse as an introductory credits scene. The movie then flashes ahead to a clone Alice dealing with a zombie attack in her home. The movie then finally sets up the main arc of the movie with the assembled team infiltrating the arctic base to rescue Alice. In previous movies, the Umbrella Corporation had many baffling events playing into their favor. In this movie, the Umbrella Corporation have a large laboratory in the arctic where they clone city amounts of people to simulate the viruses they have created's effects on a city. This is explained by the Umbrella Corporation selling the viruses to the highest bidder but this only makes sense if the world's countries have not collapsed. By this movie, the world's governments have collapsed and this lab is still in use. People are still being cloned to simulate bio-weapon attacks. This is a central component of the story and it makes no sense.Anybody hoping for a follow-up to characters in the previous movies will not see it here. The characters in the previous movies are ignored to focus on the Alice character. This is not a good choice as Alice was never a developed character. The most character development she got was in the first movie. The action in this movie suffers from the same disadvantages as in Resident Evil: Afterlife. The movie relies too much on 3D where the directing suffers for 2D viewers. The effects in this movie are competently done. This movie does use more characters from the video game series, but they do not resemble their video game counterparts. The movie continues to use their visual style but not their written stories.Resident Evil: Retribution is not recommended. This movie has too many problems to be even entertaining.
Thomas Drufke I honestly never thought I'd be sitting in the position to review the 5th, and soon to be 6th, film of the Resident Evil franchise. Usually by the time a franchise is 5 films and over a decade old, the series has gone through many changes and underwent several aesthetic iterations. You'd think they would reinvent the films several times over right? Well, with Resident Evil it's more of the same with every movie. Each film has their entertaining qualities. 'Retribution' has probably the finest action and most polished visual effects of the entire series, but there's nothing under the surface. It should come as no surprise to people familiar with the series as each film holds the same problem, but I'm foolish enough to think the next film will change. Here's hoping that 'The Final Chapter' does more than just impress the eyes. The funny thing is, 'Retribution' plays like it already is the "final chapter". Bringing back Michelle Rodriquez, Sienna Guillory, Boris Kodjoe, Oded Fehr, and Shawn Roberts, all of which whose characters were supposedly dead to the franchise. Which brings me to the most frustrating thing about this series. Characters come and go, actors come and go, settings come and go, without any real direction. It seems to me like every time one of these films goes into production they try to gather everyone from the franchise that they can, and then try to write a story around the actors. The story should always come first. This is the reason why when characters die in any Resident Evil film there is no emotional impact. Is it asking too much to develop characters a bit more in an action film?I can't say I can differentiate the plot of this film to any other in the series. Alice is going after Umbrella with the help of her friends and is forced to take on creatures of higher abilities and everyone's lives are at stake. There's nothing new and it's actually likely the least inventive of the series. Some cool action and certainly some polished CGI can save the experience. I guess.+Nice action/CGI-Characters come and go, and who really cares?-The story is exactly the same as it always is4.1/10
paulandersonpuss Why is there no zero in the options? If I could give it -10 I would.I don't have to say anything negative about this movie because others have done it.I would like to say something about the upcoming sequel resident evil the final chapter. That movie is going to suck big time, just like the other ones of this franchise. You might ask, "It hasn't come out yet so how can you tell?"The answer is, judging from previous movies namely afterlife and retribution, you can just see W S Anderson doesn't give a s..t about storytelling. This franchise is Anderson's attempt to keep his wife, Jovobitch, employed. In an interview many years ago, Jovobitch said with a smug face, "We make these movies to make money."The question is, are you going to keep letting Anderson and his wife serve moviegoers this crappy franchise and get your money?Enough said.
manjodude The only reason I saw RE: Retribution is because I have watched the 3 previously made ones and so why not catch up with the rest. I'm glad I saw this at home on my computer than in theatre. It was what I expected anyway - an escapist movie with enough Milla Jovovich action to last my coffee & popcorn. If I were in a theatre, I'd have had huge expectations and left possibly annoyed. But at home, it's just a way to relax and be entertained for a while - which Retribution did. Decent visual effects, fair amount of kicks & shoot outs and also I get to see my favs, Milla(still gorgeous) & Michelle Rodriguez(lovely). Michelle, no doubt, got a poor role but I'm glad I gotta see her anyway. If you wanna see it, just relax, forget logic and yes, grab something to bite! It isn't bad especially when you have your drink or coffee around and a bag of chips -p
