Synopsis

Göran and Sven have been cleared for adoption and they have a possibility to adopt a swedish orphan, Patrik 1,5. But when Patrik arrives he turns out to be someone else, not the little boy they were expecting. A comma had been misplaced, and in comes a 15-year-old homophobic with a criminal past.

Tedfoldol everything you have heard about this movie is true.

ozjosh03 This is well-intentioned, occasionally even charming movie, that nevertheless struggles to recover from the fatally poor plotting that blights its first 45 minutes. Goran and Sven are a gay couple who have been approved for adoption and informed that the new addition to their family will be Patrik, aged 1,5. Yes, that's a comma between the 1 and the 5. Even so, when Patrik, aged 15, arrives on their doorstep - unaccompanied, which seems odd - they are convinced there has been a mistake, and that their 18-month-old Patrik must have gone astray. That this would involve the monumental coincidence of two boys named Patrik being adopted out on the same day does not deter this asinine line of thinking. Nor does that suspicious comma on their initial notification. And the writing conveniently but clumsily fudges the unavoidable fact that Patrik's surname would also be on all official communications. But rather than come to the blindingly obvious conclusion that their Patrik is 15 - not 1,5 - Sven and Goran stumble on being phenomenally stupid and increasingly annoying for 40 long minutes. In the meantime, Sven decides, on the basis of zero evidence, that Patrik (aged 15) is also dangerous, thereby pretty much doubling the stupidity levels. It's only after these cack-handed attempts at humour that the movie settles into a rather more engaging, if also extremely predictable, tale about forging an unconventional family. The pity of it all is that there was a good movie buried in all of this. Could they not find a moderately intelligent dramaturg anywhere in Sweden?
richwgriffin-227-176635 O.K., I absolutely love love love love this movie! (: Everything about it works! Beautiful performances, excellent storytelling, direction, acting, chemistry between characters is palpably real, wonderful Swedish locations, a sweetness and compassionate movie about likable people dealing with real issues of inter-relating! (: Every moment rings true! I also love the slow version of "Here You Come Again". The film has a sexiness between the two male lovers that is rare too. And the kid is gorgeous! (: This is now one of my very favorite gay themed movies! I would love to see these actors in other films. The film is directed by a woman; what else has she directed? I was struck by how involved and interested I was at all moments throughout the film; it never sags. I love the scene where Goran and the kid go out to a fancy dinner & drink some wine! And the scene where the teen is going to "teach" Goran how to fight back would-be attackers, only to learn that Goran can take care of himself! (: And the sexy scene of reconciliation between the two husbands... yes, I LOVE this movie!! (:
Nik C. I loved it! The background of the film was a mix between that of Pushing Up Daises and August Rush, the plot was deep and current, and the characters made me laugh and cry. Patrik was an @$$ in the beginning but slowly softened up and so did Sven. And Göran was kind hearted and real. I loved how they evolved over span of the film and how their actions said more then the words they sad. Anyone straight, gay, bi, or lesbian should see this. I laughed out loud at the retort of Göran and Patrik, and cried at the moments od Patrik's baby pics and the separation of Sven and Göran. I wish that all people had the opportunity to watch this because it would open their eyes to problems that still go on today, and soften hearts.
Jay Harris This film from Sweden supposedly is a comedy about the problems of a gay couple adopting a child. These nice 2 guys thought they were getting a 1 1/2 (1,5) year old boy, The lad is a 15 year old troubled youth. The young actor playing Patrik is excellent & is the only reason I stayed for all the film. There are very few laughs or even chuckles. As a drama,it misses the mark as well. We have seen this type tale many times with a heterosexual couple. You can guess the ending ,in the lads opening scene. The guys playing the couple are quite good as well,BUT its the lad who is the main reason to see this.Ratings: **1/2 (out of 4) 72 points (out of 100) IMDb 6(Out of 10)
