ShangLuda Admirable film.
Pacionsbo Absolutely Fantastic
Kailansorac Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.
Derrick Gibbons An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
Omer Levent It was a movie I watched and liked very much in the past. I watched the film and, unlike most of it, it was as good as it was back in the day. Also, Jackie Chan is not one of the ordinary action-comedy movies. It was easy to find the fugitives. The scene of the scissors on the bomb stage was so beautiful. I just filled my eyes in the final scene of Filmin and it was over. It was very beautiful too.Filmin music was bad. Criminal characters were bad except for the type, but their characters were well chosen. Series 1667 favorite character was a character that should really be a favorite. It was a nice film, though the quality was not very high, even though the clothes were big.
Leofwine_draca Jackie Chan's much-heralded return to Chinese cinema is an engaging crime thriller that focuses on emotion and characterisation in the face of more superficial action. That's not to say the film is totally devoid of incident – in fact there's a ton of in-your-face adventure to enjoy – but the emphasis is very much on the darker aspects of the genre. The film begins in excellent form as Jackie defuses a hostage situation and then moves into pitch-black territory as he becomes responsible for the decimation of his entire team. The next hour of the film chronicles Jackie's rehabilitation in his attempts to catch the criminals. The film is very good because it adds a lot of depth to the bare-bones, somewhat predictable storyline we're all familiar with. Jackie was obviously keen to get his teeth into heavier material and his acting here is particularly strong, one of the acting highlights of his career.Action-wise, the plot delivers some impressive set-pieces, with plenty of nods to incidents in the first two POLICE STORY movies – although the films are not connected in any other way. There are lots of high-rise jumps off buildings and other gravity-defying incidents, which are put into the plot with the invention of the criminal gang being fans of extreme sports. There's an interlude with a speeding bus that recalls SPEED favourably and an action-packed climax that includes an impressive martial arts bout in a Lego showroom (great stuff). However this is one of the few hand-to-hand fights in the film as there's a greater proliferation of firearms and weapons action throughout. Jackie is well supported by a young cast, particularly Nicholas Tse as his young accomplice who galvanises him into action. The villains are suitably loathsome although they're given greater motive than most, and the special effects and explosions are all spectacular. NEW POLICE STORY is a solid action film you can get your teeth into, without all of the dumb Owen Wilson/Chris Tucker comedy that spoils Jackie's American productions.
leonblackwood Review: This film really did surprise me because there isn't any silly jokes, whatsoever and it had quite a serious storyline, which is out of character for a Jackie Chan movie. In this movie, Chan is playing a senior inspector and he is sent out to solve a case which involves young kids robbing a bank. With his elite force, he follows the clues to a warehouse but his whole elite force gets ambushed and brutally taken out by the video game fanatics. Chan manages to escape from the warehouse but he suffers deep depression after watching his team get brutally murdered. One of the team was his girlfriends brother so he finds it hard to face her and go back to work. He then starts drinking heavily and a passer-by rescues him from the gutter. His new found friend poses as a cop and he convinces Chan to take on the case to find the killers who murdered his squad. After piecing all of the clues together it turns out that the teenagers are just a bunch of rich kids who are rebelling against there parents and the leader of the group has serious issues with his father, who is the head of the police department. Now that Chan has stopped drinking and is completely focused on taking down the teenagers, he uses all of his resources, including his new found friend, to stop them in there tracks. The stunts in this movie were amazing and the crazy bus chase and abseiling down tall building scenes, were great. There really isn't anything that Chan can't do! Watching him play a depressing role was a big change to his usual happy go lucky roles but he done it well and he showed some true emotion in parts of the film. The fighting scenes were also top class from both Chan and his young sidekick and I liked the fact that the director didn't over complicate the storyline. Although this movie is called the New Police Story, it really isn't connected to the early Police Story movies, even though he is playing a cop again. Anyway, I enjoyed this lengthy movie because of the detailed action sequences and the fact that you get to see another side to Jackie Chans acting. Enjoyable!Round-Up: This movie was directed by Benny Chan who brought you the great Shaolin movie in 2011. The mixture of serious, intense drama and action, really worked in this film and the fast hitting fighting scenes made this modern day movie a joy to watch. The only downside that I found with the film was that it was a bit long and annoying teenagers seemed to be getting away with murder, literally. It didn't make sense that there was only one cop willing to sacrifice everything to take down the teenagers, who were causing havoc in the city. After murdering all of Chans elite squad, his fellow police officers were blaming Chan, because he put them in a comprising situation and they never show there appreciation for Chan efforts to take the baddies out. Anyway, I personally enjoyed the film and it's a "must have"for Jackie Chan fans. I recommend this movie to people who are into their action/crime/drama/martial arts movies starring Jackie Chan, Nicholas Tse, Mak Bau and Tak-Bun Wong. 7/10
InzyWimzy New Police Story definitely took me by surprise. Gone are the days of HK Jackie classics like Armour of God, Drunken Master, or the Police Story trilogy. I am reminded of the pain and bewilderment of his later films such as The Medallion, The Myth, and (shudder!) the Forbidden Kingdom.NPS is a good mix of story, suspense, and plenty of action; action mixed with gunplay and martial arts. Actually, the action scenes were reminiscent of those from the earlier Police Stories with high octane charge laced with a modern twist. I must admit whether Jackie had done his own stunts here as there are some really creative scenes (the end credits proved that he did). A dark tone lies throughout the film which fits well with what Inspector Chan has to deal with. Plus, credit to Anthony Pun's cinematography which captures some really great shots of modern Hong Kong (both day and night).I would've rated NPS excellent except for the overdramatics in the film. Kudos to Jackie for stretching out here, but the tears were flowing like the Yangtze! Although this did not detract much from the movie, I can see how certain scenes may have required emotional outbursts. More bullets, flying kicks, and punches for me and thankfully, NPS provides a plethora of them.
