Kattiera Nana I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Moustroll Good movie but grossly overrated
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Plustown A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
tigerstripe-55454 Either you will cry watching this movie or you are an actual robot. Anna CHlumsky and Dan Aykroyd are the sweetest little duo and this story about growing up has a little something for everyone. I wish they still made live action kid-adult movies like this, but at least we have My Girl for years to come...
Oscar McGeachie In the Summer of 1972, 11-Year Old Vada (played by Anna Chlumsky) lives in a funeral parlour with her father (played by Dan Aykroyd) who works as an undertaker in a small town of Pennsylvania. Her mother died when she gave birth to her. Then Shelly De Voto (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) comes along and soon she and Vada's father are having a relationship. But the only person in Vada's life is her best friend Thomas J. (played by Macaulay Culkin), and they have many summer adventures together.
Arreis Nitsuga The story of friendship in this movie is so beautiful and I can't restrain myself from crying towards the end of the movie. Both Vada and Thomas is a good actor. The movie is great, but I think the friendship of Vada and Thomas J. is not concrete enough to make it heart-wrenching at the end maybe because there isn't enough laughter in their days that makes people reminisce about when the tragedy happen. but still, the tragedy is good enough to make people cry.But their friendship is great and so tragic that it is almost unfair to Vada for losing important people from her life.
WakenPayne This probably is one of those movies that everybody talks about for things like the last 20 minutes. I saw a clip of this movie on YouTube and I wanted to see it. I finally found a version that I can watch and to be honest there are a few little problems with it but not many. This is a coming of age film about a girl named Vada, she is surrounded by death because her mother died in childbirth (and she blames herself) and her father is an undertaker who doesn't seem to have time for her nor listens to her (Dan Akroyd). She consistently tries to tell people she's dying, when really all she wants is attention. When a make-up artist (Jamie Lee Curtis) applies for a job soon her father starts dating her. All she does is hang around her best friend, Thomas (MaCauley Culkin) and look after her grandmother with mental health problems. This is the events that happen over a summer break. The acting in this movie... My god, from Anna Chlumsky, it's brilliant. Easily one of the best child performances ever alongside Emily Perkins in Small Sacrifices. I really wonder why out of the kids in this movie the one I've heard of is MaCauley Culkin because Anna is definitely the better actor. The other actors are also pretty good. I mean There was nobody that didn't do a decent job in this movie. One thing I really liked was the drama. Now I think you may have heard people talk about it but my insight is that it went really well and possibly the best drama I've seen in a kids film. It all works really well.If there was anything to raise against this movie it would be when Vada runs to the teacher she has a crush on during one of the more dramatic moments and confesses her love for him only to find out he is getting married because he almost literally announces it a few seconds later... This is at a time when an 11 year old girl is grieving over somebody's death - is that really the best time to tell her that? I think not.So aside from that complaints everything else is a nitpick. This movie really does capture childhood and it really is a timeless movie. This is definitely one of the best coming of age and family films out there, maybe because I haven't seen many. I will most certainly watch My Girl 2 even though I've heard it's not that good. If you can find it, check it out.
