what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

Okay, the ending really annoyed me, since, as stated, the ring could have been taken off, so how did Sandra come to her conclusion other than suddenly becoming psychic? Aside from that, this is not a horrible movie, and it would have been much more interesting with a couple of script revisions; a bit less emphasis on Sandra's character and a lot more on the boys, who did manage, even with the female love interest, to exhibit the requisite closeted leanings in this type of story that were more than hinted at in Compulsion and Rope, and even Strangers on a Train.I gave the movie a 6 rating simply because of Sandra's sudden ability to read Michael's mind at the end, but, overall it's not as horrible as other reviewers seem to think.

It was supposed to be the perfect murder...unfortunately it was not...I was expecting to be the perfect murder...anyway the film begins with the two boys planning the "perfect murder" and it goes well until super detective{Sandra bullock} suspects them...why?she founds the ''right suspect'' all the clues was logically connected...but no,she knows about the boys and decides to chase them...and how the police ignore all the clues about the main suspect?the case was supposed to be closed but again super detective is on duty...I just wondering why Justin didn't do anything when he threw up and just left...he was scared?yes,he was disgusted?yes but he was very smart to do something like this...I just don't understand it...and how the lamb found Justin's DNA from the puke...the chances was about 1\1000 i guess....anyway the plot has many gaps and it is very predictable...However the chemistry of two boys is pretty good and i enjoyed it...Sandra bullock is good too but i think over the top...I just expected to see the perfect murder,thats all...i had more expectations from this film.I give it a 5/10

Murder by Numbers is a mesmerizing crime thriller about detective Cassie Mayweather (Sandra Bullock) and new partner Sam Kennedy (Ben Chaplin) are pitted against two malevolent high school students (Ryan Gosling and Michael Pitt), who execute a perfect murder.This movie cuts to the chase with story elements that grab your attention at certain times with its riveting acting, from Gosling playing mind games with Bullock to the detectives attempting to outwit the two crooked geniuses to solve the case.It's a murder-mystery movie with plenty of twists and turns, but has a plot which can wear you out a bit as I've found it to be a little slow at times as it dwells on unnecessary characters' past and drama a lot and has limited action. It's not great, it's not bad, but an average crime thriller.Grade C+

This film is almost totally ruined by the way the story is dominated by the neurotic behavior of the lead actress. She is a senior police officer investigating a horrific murder where the 2 suspects are a couple of clever gay students who commit a murder for fun and are trying to get away with the perfect crime. By virtue of very strong performances of the two gays this story would be compelling had it been left on its own. But -no- the film makers have to make the major plot the lunatic mixed up nympho-maniac aforesaid police woman. Also instead of being brave enough to betray the gays for what they are the movie brings in some f-a-g hag to have sex with both the gays.....
