ChanBot i must have seen a different film!!
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
loueysmith If you like suspense movies and decent acting...watch this!! So many reviewers have stated that the conclusion of the movie is what loses it's potential. I don't agree with this. The acting was superb from all and the storyline was gripping, it really doesn't bother me that he manages to find out what's caused the evil behind the mirrors and actually resolved it (kinda) it was obvious that this was where the storyline was headed anyway. I do like movies that get to the route of issues, it gives the movie closure. Each to their own I guess, but I thought the whole movie was spot on and intriguing! Yes, Kiefer Sutherland did portray much of his Jack Bauer character, but I didn't mind that either, as I loved 24 too. Oh, and the bath scene with Amy Smart, wow, well done!! My advice, is to watch it!
Smart Squirrel I made a terrible mistake by relying on this movie's score here on IMDb and gave it a try. It took me two days to try and finish this nonsense, trying to pause for sandwiches, phone calls I didn't want to make and even doing bits of work - anything just in order to not continue. I felt, however, that if I follow fellow spectators's advice, the plot was going to suddenly give me at least *some* thrills that the beginning/development of the movie failed to deliver. No way it's anywhere near a 6. This movie is ridiculous crap. Don't bother, it won't even work as a time killer. Just find something else to watch.I am not sure how they lured Keifer Sutherland into this project, it must have been about money vs effort implied. But I must say, it looks like he tried to be an actor through this disaster and work off the money, while everyone else involved was wiser and didn't bother acting.Plain awful, it will bore you out of your trousers.
Nitzan Havoc Besides being a devout Horror fan, two reasons made me try this film: First, my love for Horror films featuring well known top rated cast members (in this case Kiefer Sutherland). As a terribly underrated genre, every known television or cinema star who plays in Horror adds to its coverage and prestige. Second, even if I wasn't a fan of the Haunting and Ghost Story sub-genre, I've always liked Horror stories concerning and involving mirrors. I've never had a real fear of mirrors myself, but this specific theme has tons of potential in the Horror genre!Mirrors allegedly delivers all of the above. The acting is pretty much great (not just Sutherland, every member of the cast did a good job). At times I didn't like Paula Patton's overacting (though it was obviously a direct order from the filmmakers), and I did think there was room to give Cameron Boyce and Erica Gluck more screen time (mainly because I'm a huge fan of young actors and actresses taking their first steps in Horror), but bad acting was definitely not one of this film's problems. The story didn't feel too original but quite generic. Something evil lives in the mirror, we should drive it away before it kills us. What did seem original (I haven't seen it in other films yet) was the way the evil in the mirror kills its victims, using their reflections against them. I've watched the unrated version, which turned out to be a mistake, as I'm not a fan of gore, blood and the "look how much money I've spent on effects" syndrome. Gore fans would prefer that version, though. The ending lacks the coveted plot twist which makes a good Horror film great, and yet was original and well executed. Many films of this genre suffer from its curse - endings which are anticlimactic and sometimes down right disappointing. While a well thought of plot twist is an excellent tool to deter that effect, Mirrors shows us that not all fine endings involve twists. All in all, I've really enjoyed watching this film. While some parts of the story weren't as good as others, the overall experience is entertaining and at times actually frightening. Definitely recommended!
Reservoir Dog I understand that many people want to see more psychological horror as many horror films in recent years use jump scared which I've seen referred to as "not real horror". Mirror brings just what you are looking for.Aja builds suspense brilliantly so there is the occasional slight jump. Otherwise, it is a cleverly shot film showing our fears.Have you ever wondered what your reflection does when you aren't looking? Kiefer Sutherland plays a suspended cop who is working as a security guard at an abandoned department store filled with mirrors. However, in the mirrors are not just his reflection...I will not spoil what happens or how it ends. If you were to watch the opening scene you would get a feel for what the film is like. With strong violence (as per usual for Alexandre Aja), Mirrors will satisfy all groups of horror fans.
