Synopsis

The main plotline concerns retired Mr Ueno, who since a child has been cared for by his late parents’ robot maid ‘Maria’ – a lifelike humanoid in a maid’s outfit! Over the years, Ueno has developed an unconsummated love for Maria, but although she has not ‘aged’ as such, she is now classed as an obsolete model and Ueno is finding it difficult replacing her fading battery… The secondary plotline involves Detective Yuri Akagi, who is investigating a series of rapes, which she believes may be being committed by a rogue droid.

Reviews

Megamind To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
Ava-Grace Willis Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
Zlatica One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Staci Frederick Blistering performances.
J_Charles I love Akiho Yoshizawa. So cute, so bubbly, so beautiful to look at while naked.... Yup. I wish I had a maid droid. The summaries given in the other reviews are pretty thorough. So no need to repeat again here. My review: This is definitely two movies in one. And unfortunately because the two movies have nothing to do with each other it seems odd. And the fact they contrast greatly in tone makes the contrast even more jarring. One is a touching "love" story between a man and his droid. The other is a cold-blooded droid rapist on the loose preying on lone women on the streets. There are a few sex scenes of note. None of them are really hot & heavy. There's one where the old man reminisces about losing his virginity to a buxom beauty who is obviously hot for his money. She's got amazing breasts but while thrusting she exclaims how large his house is and how much it must be worth in this neighbourhood. I don't know who the actress is but I'd love to find out. She's got an awesome body. The other is between a young man who's trying out the latest version of Maid droid, with sex functionality fully enabled. That one is a bit hotter but feels like a commercial for the droid. It ends badly for the young man as the droid malfunctions. The last is a masturbation scene with the detective, Anri Suzuki. Not much to say other than she's got a nice body too. But it's strange to watch her rubbing one out with a robot voice in the backdrop talking. There are a couple robo-rape scenes but not really worth mentioning. 6/10 - worth it for the robo-sex trial scene if you're an Akiho Yoshizawa fan.
Paul Magne Haakonsen Initially I had no idea what this movie was all about prior to buying it, so it was with no expectations or hopes for the movie that I sat down to watch it.The story is sort of interesting in an odd way. "Maid-Droid" tells two different stories, actually. The main story is about a young boy who gets a maid-droid to look after him, as his parents are working. Then during his teenage years, his parents dies, and he is left alone with the maid-droid. Coming into his teens, the boy discovers sexuality, but the prototype maid-droid is not able to update with a sex program. When the guy has turned old, the maid-droid is out of battery, leaving the tables turned, as the old man have to take care of the maid-droid as she had taken care of him when he was younger. "Maid-Droid" also tells the tale of a detective chasing after a robot that is raping victims in a quiet part of town.Be warned that "Maid-Droid" has a lot of nudity and adult situations, bordering on pornography. I was a bit surprised at this, as I had thought the movie to be either a romantic comedy or a comedy movie. This movie is not for everyone to see, and the adult contents should be taken into consideration before you sit down to watch it. And the movie also is dealing heavily on the Japanese fetish with lolita cosplay and maid costumes. The acting in "Maid-Droid" was adequate, although there was no real outstanding performances in particular. But for a movie of this type, I think the actors/actresses did well enough. The movie is fairly slow in its progress, but the story is still entertaining enough. Sure, at times it was cheesy and stupid, and the excessive adult situations didn't help that along, but the movie was still good enough entertainment. However, I doubt that I will make a second watching of it, because it just didn't have that much appeal.
zillion29-1 I'm ashamed to admit that I even rented this. Obviously conceived as a combination of high science fiction and soft-core porn, it fails on both accounts. The actors do their best with bad material, especially the aged man in love with his maid droid. And in the tradition of the worst J-video schlock, it flushes any credibility down the toilet by dredging the same tired well of deviant sexuality and misogyny (get ready for that swirling simulated phallus as it menaces the poor victims). See - the women being raped are actually just horny and the rapist is satisfying them!?!!?!? The special effects are poor, the comedy is lowbrow (a malfunctioning sex-bot rips a guys junk off), and the ending is actually a repudiation of the message of the entire film to that point. Pure garbage. Do not bother with this unless you have a maid fetish or like robotic bestiality.
zetes Interesting and somewhat noble failure. The problem is the script has two pretty good ideas going, but it isn't able to combine them in any meaningful way. The film only runs about an hour long, too, so it all feels more like the kernel of a film than an actual one. The main plot line is about an old man and the sexy maid droid he has had since he was a teenager. When he first got it, it was state of the art, but unfortunately not sexually functional. When the technology to make these droids sexually functional came about, his model was too old to update. But he loves the thing and won't let it go. As an old man, the droid's battery has gone dead and is pretty much impossible to replace. It's quite a sweet story, maybe even a tad too schmaltzy at times (the ending of this half of the story is especially cheesy), but it's good material. Japan, of course, is big on robots and the future probably will include this sort of thing. It's a good subject to explore, the ways this technological development will change society. And the whole robots and their relationships to humans theme is a common and always interesting one in science fiction. Now the second plot line running throughout Maid Droid isn't nearly as successful, though I still think it has a kernel of a good idea. It's about a serial rapist robot and the female detective who is trying to capture it. The actual solution to what this rape-bot is is pretty clever, and kind of hilarious (not to mention filthy). The thing is, they just never are able to integrate this subplot into the more emotionally involving maid droid plot line. I don't think that task was impossible, though. This plot also deals with a robot-filled society, and with some connective tissue between the two plot lines, I think the film could have functioned much better. As it is, it feels like a prototype for a much better film.
