Mr Black Seriously, they should have eliminated the first part of the title and just called it "other disasters" I usually enjoy most movies, even the bad ones, but this disaster IS a disaster from start to finish. Brittany Murphy's character starts speaking with a supposed English accent,, then not,,then back again with some words, but not others,, then back again.. what is that supposed to be? It's this weird promotion of the gay lifestyle...nothing more. Seriously,, do you think just because people are gay and your the opposite sex it's okay to walk around in front of them nude all the time? Well, maybe in this film, but last i checked answering the door in your underwear to a relative stranger is frowned upon. Not to mention Brittany walking into the bathroom in front of her roommate and dropping her drawers to sit on the toilet? Come on.! Is this what Hollywood has become? Can you image Lauren Bacall, Elizabeth Taylor, Greta Garbo ,, peeing on screen? Cripes.! What waste of celluloid this thing is. And like I say, usually i like even bad movies, but garbage, I can't tolerate.

trepessa I just watched this movie which was about a girl, American, working in England as an assistant at Vogue. Her career was sort of a side issue to all the antics going on with her love life and that of her gay roommate. I thought Brittany Murphy was charming in the part she played as "Jacks", a wannabe matchmaker for her gay room mate. What makes it comical is she matches up the new photographer's assistant assuming he is gay with her roommate. It is a comedy of errors and mistaken love attachments. There were parts I burst out laughing. It isn't plausible to me for real life but it was very entertaining. The photographer's assistant, Paolo, is from Argentina and they want to deport him just as his career takes off after the main photographer walks out on a shoot because he gets in a verbal squabble with Paolo and "Jacks". Paolo takes over the shoot and his photographs are published. In the meantime, she breaks up with her boyfriend and he is jealous of Paolo even though Jacks thinks he is gay, but her room mate and her boyfriend know differently. He reports him as an illegal alien and he is being deported. Jacks still doesn't know he is not gay and suggests they marry to keep him in the country. At the court wedding he admits he isn't gay and he loves her. She walks out feeling betrayed and he takes off to Argentina. She recovers and tries to catch him and misses the flight and subsequently takes another flight to Argentina.The room mate writes a screenplay on their life which is changed for the big screen with other actors playing them in a movie which they view at the end. It shows Gwenneth Paltrow meeting Paolo at the airport being played by Orlando Bloom and she confesses her love and they kiss. In the mean time it shifts back to the real characters watching a screening of the film and everyone leaves with a very pregnant Jacks. They all live happily ever after. There are other side stories with the gay roommate and some of their friends, but this is the basis of the movie. It is light and funny and I loved this movie. It is really sad that Brittany Murphy passed away because I think she was a really versatile actress and will be missed. The moral was you choose love and love is a chance one takes, it's a leap of faith.

eek5067 I have seen many films in my short life of 19 years, and Love and Other Disasters proves to be a memorable one.This movie has so much spunk and fresh ideas about love, it's infectious. Following Jacks and her friends on their search for love is a truly fun experience. My friends and I can't get enough of this movie! It combines romance with the most unique ideas of cross-cultural comedy. Not focusing solely on British or American comedy, it has something for both cultures. There are very few romantic comedies set in a foreign country that I consider a great movie. Most have overdone physical comedy and familiar story lines, but not this one.I suggest this film to anyone to enjoys a romantic comedy that is different, new faces, and a fresh outlook on life and love.
