Matylda Swan It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
poseye Make no mistake, the humor in this film was quite amusing, and Guy Pearce's character was the center of attention. The movie seemed to lack a very well developed storyline, as there was only one thing to the movie- save the president's daughter. Therefor, it is predictable, although there are a few 'twists'. Also there is not much backstory or depth to the characters, and the viewers just learn as they go.The audience doesn't know a lot about how, what, why, and when everything with 'the case' happened. Although the action right off the back was gripping, there was no dimension. And for being set in the future with space prisons- the world didn't look too evolved- especially getting to see the inside of the hotel room.
stinc3 I was watching this movie for about 3 minutes, then I realised I was counting every "Snow" I hear instead of watching it.Boring ! Don't bother watching, it's crap. Bad script, bad dialog, bad directing, awful sfx... I thought the casting was able to save us from a total mess, I thought wrong. Don't waste your time on it.
reisnersteven The only reason I didn't rate this higher than 7 stars is a few scenes, especially the ending could have been done with more action. That being said if you don't enjoy this, you've either never seen a real action movie or are too high and might to take it for what it is. This is a homage to the old days, when action movies knew what they were and embraced it, those with knowledge of the old days should recognize most homages instantly. Guy Pearce was a good lead for this, was he perfect? No I could think of a few guys who could do the role but it worked. Pearce stars as Snow...a chain smoking, hard nosed , wise cracking ex-special agent with one chance to regain his freedom. The movie is worth watching for the banter alone, it's constant and it's funny. There are some very nice action scenes, I expect no less from a guy like Luc Besson. However my main complaints are from a lack of brutality, an R rated movie centering around a prison riot should have plenty of that. My other complaint is the most memorable villain in the movie didn't get a very memorable send off. Overall I've watched this twice now and will again, take it for what it is. A homage to the old school action heroes, in that sense the film is near perfect
Lina Ko I would like to thank the directors and writers for a truly enjoyable film. This is what true entertainment is like - wry, packed with action, with a toy plot which is just convincing enough to be absorbing and transparent enough to be non-scary. I have to confess that I am one of those impressionable souls who can't watch scary films alone and who can't watch horror films at all. This particular gem has been made known to me courtesy of my brother who periodically drags me away from the likes of Barbara Stanwyck and Cary Grant in order to keep me up-to-date with the "modern" cinema. This film was sheer joy from start to end, probably made with babies like me in mind - people who want a scary film without any real fear. I loved it all, loved the "fallen angel" wisecracking hero, cliché privileged damsel in distress (who toughens up enjoyably towards the end), scarily evil villains who don't get the chance to stoop to anything truly horrifying, the talking heads (all of them old and white except the token African American). My favourite part is the ending with the non-kiss. This is one cliché that would have really disappointed. Instead, we get more wisecracking. Perfection.Apropos, did anyone else notice the poor choice of a bodyguard? Where did he train - Academy for Brain Dead? Going into a maximum security prison with a hidden gun and becoming aggressive towards a guy that should be watched like a hawk - and if that is not enough - causing the charge to almost suffocate. Seriously, I breathed a sigh of relief when he died. Marion Snow is now a new favourite character of mine. I didn't know Guy Pearce existed until I've seen this film. It's time to look up his filmography.
