Lovesusti The Worst Film Ever
PodBill Just what I expected
VeteranLight I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
adonis98-743-186503 Four friends take a break from their day-to-day lives to throw a bachelor party in Las Vegas for their last remaining single pal. Last Vegas brings Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Kevin Kline and Michael Douglas for an epic trip in Las Vegas that is packed with lots of terrific humor and a plot that is a bit similar to Hangover but better. The entire cast does a great job especially Freeman who has an insane and hilarious comedic scene involving him and a window. As for De Niro? If you loved him in the 2013 driven Comedy, Boxing, Spoof starring alongside Stallone you are gonna love him in this film as well cause he was brilliant and the same goes for Douglas and Kline. (10/10)
Scarecrow-88 For over 60 years, Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Kline have been friends, since they were kids. Douglas gets the band back together for a Vegas bachelor party (he's marrying a 30 year old beauty; mid life crisis, much?), and the four try to embrace the joy of life in Sin City one last year (or is this so final?). De Niro's Paddy is seriously upset with Douglas' busy Billy Gherson (an entrepreneur in Malibu) because he didn't attend the funeral of his wife…Sophie (Paddy's wife) wanted Billy to read the eulogy, which Paddy holds him accountable for. Freeman's Archie recently had a minor stroke and his deeply concerned son is a bit overbearing in his protection of pops. Kline's Sam is actually permitted by his wife to commit adultery while in Vegas…but will he? The four meet a charming lounge singer portrayed by Mary Steenburgen (Time After Time & Back to the Future III). Douglas and De Niro both are attracted to Steenburgen. Sophie, we soon learn, wanted to be with Douglas but he felt she was meant to be with De Niro. Now the same decision once again must be confronted by Douglas who is drawn romantically (and vice versa) to Steenburgen, as De Niro admits to having interest in her (De Niro doesn't realize it until a conversation about her with Douglas that he feels the same). So there's that. Meanwhile, Archie is successful at Black Jack, with over 100 K in earnings, and this success leads to the casino offering the four old-timers a nice room in the prestigious hotel! Soon, pretty Vegas people get involved in the Bachelor party as Douglas must inevitably address whether or not he should get married when he doesn't feel actual love for his fiancé! My favorite scene has Kline in a room with a very attractive young woman offering her body to him (she tells him that maybe she should ditch the young immature men always coming on strong in favor of older gents!), having to decide if he will seal the deal or remain faithful to his wife. This film coasts on its four male leads and Steenburgen's effortless appeal. De Niro is in "grumpy old man" mode, but I like his "Sophie scenes" a great deal. I like his loyalty and respect for the woman he loved and adored, while Douglas solidifies the "old man still trying to hold onto the twenty-year-old kid of yesteryear" character, with hair implants and fake sun tan. Freeman's grandpa character is endearing, as he abandons the retired geezer status for a little fun (he has an amusing dance with numerous ladies jiving with him). Kline is my favorite of the four, with his expressions to the beauties gathered in resorts, pools, and clubs priceless. His meeting with trans-folk is a fun highlight. This is little more than 90 minutes of great actors in their twilight years enjoying themselves. The plot doesn't get too bogged down in melodrama, and the film is breezy enough. But, honestly, I will probably forget about it in a little while, because there isn't anything too challenging or requesting too much investment from us. Sometimes movies are made to give actors something to do and for their fans to just enjoy them absent quality material. This film doesn't attempt to be anything more than an entertainment to take in and discard afterward. But, if anything, the four leads work well together and share quite a congenial rapport.
Yasmin_07 I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I wish there were more scenes of the characters as children. I am not in the age bracket of the actors, but could compare my own friendships with theirs. I love when movies show and even promote realistic relationships.I hate how Paddy didn't get the girl and was even told that his wife only stuck with him because his first choice said no. It left a bad taste in the mouth. There should have been at least 2 older ladies in the film. one for each of them! I loved Morgan in this film also. Very funny. You will find there are some great one liners in this film.Age is just a number... for everything EXCEPT true love. You can start something new everyday. A new business venture, going back to study, travelling, you name it! But there is something very endearing about couples who choose to grow old together or with someone of their own generation. I think Billy and men like Billy (was), ARE fearful of growing old. And then some are just straight up jerks! All in all, a great film to watch with friends.
Bryan Kluger The trailers for 'Last Vegas', a comedy starring several actors over the age of 60 in a plot very similar to 'The Hangover', gave me serious doubts about how good it could actually be. On the one hand, I foresaw this film playing out for a crowd over 50 with cute humor that my mother and grandmother could laugh at, but not much else. On the other hand, this could have simply failed on every level, with poor dialogue, bad characters and no real story – just an excuse to get some veteran actors together to make a quick buck. Well, I couldn't be more wrong. This ensemble featuring Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Kline and Mary Steenburgen is smart, witty, heartfelt and hilarious. The film starts with a prologue in which four boys about 11-years-old hang out in New York. You can instantly see how close and loyal these friends have become at such an early age. We then jump forward over 50 years. Sam (Kline) is not really enjoying his early retirement in Florida with his wife; Archie (Freeman) lives with his over-protective son and family after suffering a mild stroke; and Paddy (De Niro) is still emotionally unstable due to his wife's recent death and barely leaves his Brooklyn apartment. Then there's Billy (Douglas), a very successful lawyer who has more money than he knows what to do with. The only thing is, Billy has never fallen in love. That is, until now, when he calls his friends to tell them that he's getting married in a few days to a girl who seems to have just graduated high school. His friends decide to throw him a bachelor party in Vegas, but must first convince Paddy to come along, as Paddy and Billy's friendship hit a big speed bump a year or so prior. The script by Dan Fogelman delivers some great jokes about getting older that somehow seem fresh this time around. The movie also has a strong layer of comedy and drama. As our characters spend their weekend in Sin City, they stumble upon a lounge singer named Diana (Steenburgen) in a dive casino. Billy and Paddy become infatuated with her almost immediately. Meanwhile, Sam tries to get laid, by request from his wife, in order to recharge their sex life back home, but ends up talking to drag queens. As soon as Archie enters a casino, he quickly pulls out $15k in cash and begins betting. When he wins big, the four guys acquire the top penthouse in Vegas, access to the hottest nightclubs, and even host one of the best parties in town in their luxurious suite. What works so well is the cast's chemistry. The characters have deep layers and prove that, even after 50+ years, they still have love for one another and will be loyal and protect each other. The movie has some truly heartwarming scenes, as well as a lot of gut-busting laugh-out-loud moments.'Last Vegas' was much better than I expected and packs enough heart and laughs for two movies.
