Stometer Save your money for something good and enjoyable
Baseshment I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
Donald Seymour This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Logan By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
ironoxidey Keira Knightley's character was hard to like at times. It may be that she closely resembled my ex in how poorly she made decisions, never considering the effects her choices had on anyone else. But that's pretty real, I guess. And her character develops well over the course of the film. I think she finally gets it, but I would have a hard time ever trusting someone like her (again). It's not that I don't like a mixed protagonist. It's just that I wanted to shake her at different moments, and yell, "What are you doing?! Are you even thinking at all?!" But one would probably think that of me, watching my life from the outside. It's convicting, considering that we're all mixed protagonists in our own lives.Sam Rockwell is consistently supreme in his ability to deliver performances that produce audible laughter from me. I'll pretty much watch anything he does, and though sometimes the film is mediocre, he is always exceptional—I never regret the decision to watch. If you're looking for some great Sam Rockwell movies, check out "The Way Way Back" and "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind". He's great in everything I've seen him in, though.
SnoopyStyle Megan (Keira Knightley) is in her late 20's and lost. She has a degree in family therapy from grad school but don't feel right for the work. She's the bridesmaid in her friend Allison (Ellie Kemper)'s wedding. She catches her father (Jeff Garlin) cheating on her mother. Her boyfriend Anthony (Mark Webber) proposes. It's all too much. She befriends Annika (Chloë Grace Moretz) and her high school group by buying them booze. Instead of going to a self-improvement seminar, she hides out in Annika's house. She falls for Annika's dad (Sam Rockwell) and feels more comfortable with the kids. The premise seems fun and interesting. Knightley and Moretz are a good pairing. The movie works well as long as it's them. Anthony is a waste of time character. The movie needs less of him. Sam Rockwell is too obvious and is almost annoyingly cliché. This movie works much better when Megan does things to help Annika. I want to like this from the premise and the actresses. The movie is good with them but it doesn't do anything else worthwhile.
Instant_Palmer Wasn't expecting to like this film as much as I did. First, Sam Rockwell has got to be one of the best actors to work with. He is naturally cool and his confidence on screen must be contagious. Have never seen who put anything but an A-Game performance out there. Second, no one plays the girl we all want to fall in love with (who is sincere, cool, fun, and romantic) than Kiera Knightley. Kiera and Sam? Would never see it working on paper. Totally worked on the screen. Third, Chloe Grace Moretz is one fine young actress whose resume is amazing at such a young age. Expect to see Oscars on a frequent basis from her. Finally, Lynn Shelton paces this film perfectly. Her best effort to date. Nicely done! 👏👏👏
mistoppi I was expecting more hilarious and absurd comedy, I mean the summary made it sound like it could be that. But Laggies turned out to be deeper. It reminded me of Liberal Arts by Josh Radnor, since both movies deal with growing up, etcetera.Megan was easy to relate to as a character. Even though her character seemed to revolve a lot around how she felt "out of place" and unsure, she didn't become a simple symbol of said feeling. She had other traits too. Even though there has been better written characters, I liked her a lot.I love how the message isn't really about finding your own place in the world, it's more like it's alright if you don't have it all figure out. Life just happens. I really liked Laggies, though it wasn't at all what I was expecting. It was fun, light and still meaningful. This movie is entertainment you don't have to start analysing, but you still can, because it really does have a purpose. I would warmly recommend this movie to anyone.
