Synopsis

At the Sandwich Islands, which includes the "deviled egg" island, the "hot dog on a bun" island, and the "hamburger" island (with a sign, "Hold the Onions"), we see a man on the "tunaville" island surveying the area with a telescope. He notices a crate full of musical instruments wash ashore and alerts the others. The tribe finds these instruments strange and unusual at first but eventually really get the hang of them, particularly one member who plays a hot piano, his playing being somewhat interrupted by a pestiferous crab.

Reviews

Wordiezett So much average
Acensbart Excellent but underrated film
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
tavm Just watched this Walter Lantz Swing Symphony on Thad's Animation Blog. It takes place on the Sandwich Islands which consists of Ham on Rye, Deviled Eggs, Hot Dog on Bun, Hamburger (with a sign saying "Hold the Onion") and Tunaville which is where a native notices through his telescope a box of musical instruments coming ashore. In no time at all the dark brown-skinned people all learn to form a band but not before one of them-a guy who looks like Fat Albert-plys his trade on the piano after seeing a crab use his legs expertly on them and tries to get "Albert" away from the keys! That segment was played by the late Bob Zurke who gets a credit here. The rest of the score was courtesy of Darrell Calker who really swings it at the end! And the director responsible for the whole excellent mix of humor and music is James "Shamus" Culhane. All I'll say after that is find Jungle Jive and dig it all, man!
