BootDigest Such a frustrating disappointment
FeistyUpper If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
VeteranLight I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
Console best movie i've ever seen.
cookiefonster I saw the movie and enjoyed it a lot, even as it got darker in the end. It was enjoyable to see how Valentino cared for his daughter very much but in a weird way, lying about her mother just so she'll be happy, which is further complicated by her idea of him as a fearless man when he isn't actually like that (the scene where his daughter makes him unwittingly jump off a building from the 10th floor and is injured) and Julie coming and not being what she thought for so long, which made for a very invigorating plot. But the ending is very unsatisfying. They made such a big deal about who will raise the girl with trials and everything, and in the end, rather than choosing how she'll live her life, they just kill her off??? That ending is too much of a downer and negates so much of the plot. What's weirder is that in the ending scene where Maggie dies peacefully, Valentino and Julie watch the sunset as if they're a married couple when it's really a man and one of his 20 or so exes.Despite the ending, the premise of the movie and how it was played out was still very great. I'll give it a solid 8, all great except the end which deducts 2 points.
mmkgny While Eugenio Derbez' comedic wordplay is worth an occasional chuckle if you can sit through the shrill, garish presentation of his many television series, the idea of spending two hours with Derbez was daunting on its face, but my spouse, who adores him, insisted. Derbez only got where he is by winning the lucky gene pool, as he happens to have been born of the truly talented and multidimensional actress, Sylvia Derbez, which kind of makes him Mexico's Liza Minelli, although he is, unbelievably, even more irritating than his American counterpart. This particular film features less of Derbez' amusing wordplay and more of all that is off-putting about this talentless buffoon, who makes sure to paint his character as angelic, rather than asinine, which, if you're actually listening to the dialog instead of being distracted by his constant mugging (think Jerry Lewis and Cantinflas' love child) is the only apt description of this protagonist. I couldn't believe what a self-righteous, maudlin infomercial for the catholic church's medieval ideas on procreation and homosexuality this obnoxious piece of crap turned out to be. Don't waste your time. If you have half a brain cell, you'll be sorry you did.
ehannah243 I laughed and I cried. The actors were sincere and believable. I don't want to include any spoilers but I cried several times throughout. If you have children or a heart for them and have ever triumphed over huge obstacles in your life you will probably claim this movie to be one of your all time favorites. The father is dedicated and facing huge hurdles upon coming into America in search of his babies mother. What happens next will touch your heart. The little girl is a fantastic actress she speaks perfect Spanish and plays her part perfectly, its hard not to believe the story is real. Even the absent mom makes you really feel the anger of her daughters abandonment from the moment she walks away. My emotions were really touched in every way possible. From love to loss I left this movie only wanting more. I would highly recommend seeing this movie.
lloz2007 This movie simply took my breath away. I hadn't made time to see it, but I wish I would have a lot sooner. True the start of the movie is silly, but you get it. It's not distasteful and it isn't all that predictable. From beginning to finish I was laughing and crying. Asking myself questions and staying intrigued by the story line. There was never a dull moment. And you could see the father daughter relationship develop, the way one might. It wasn't fake and it wasn't forced or awkward, it was natural. Everything about the movie was flawless. It was relatable in a sense that his ways of being a good and caring father reminded me of my father. Going that extra mile, being supportive, being a clown, being your hero. The way he portrayed the father figure was dead on. His daughter was curious, daring, and humbled. She too is a soulful and beautiful actor/ actress. This is now one of my favorite movies. You neeeeeeed to WATCH it. Make time and do yourself a favor by embracing this story and letting it become a part of you...The rating should be higher, why it isn't, is ridiculous. No matter the racial differences or what have you, humans are humans. Spanish, English, whatever, just check it out =). By the end of the movie you'll be applauding, crying, laughing, and much more appreciative of your life and your loved ones.
