Reviews

AniInterview Sorry, this movie sucks
Actuakers One of my all time favorites.
Griff Lees Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Mathilde the Guild Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
KineticSeoul I didn't feel that this was a unnecessary prequel but it's still competent. So if you liked the first one, this won't ruin this franchise for you. This prequel delves into how Chan Wing-yan earned the trust of the Triad bosses. Lau Kin-ming affair or one sided love with Hon Sam's wife. His work and his cunning executions while working for Ngai Kwun a Triad Boss. This prequel builds some sympathy for Hon, his grief and his rise to power. It further delves into some unnecessary subplots but it did a alright job of showing insight to the two moles younger years. Some parts did not seem all that consistent when it comes to the narrative and some parts did come off a bit corny. But overall, it's a competent prequel that came about thanks to the first one's huge success.7/10
Gordon-11 This film is about the complicated relationship between the triads and the police in Hong Kong.I have not had high hopes for "Infernal Affairs 2", as prequels are usually not that good. However, "Infernal Affairs 2" literally blew me away, as it is just as intense as the first one. It might be difficult to understand, as there are so many characters. Despite the police and the triads seemingly on opposing sides of the society, their actions are portrayed in a way that makes you think why the characters acted in such a way, and how it benefits them. No one stays truly on one side. This complicated plot is so intellectually stimulating, if you can follow it. The plot is emotionally powerful as well, particularly the internal struggles of Yan (the younger son of the triad leader). I am looking forward to watching the third one already.
edchin2006 If you get that funny feeling when watching this film that you've seen too many HK action thrillers and that you've seen this one before, it's probably true. However, you may have seen Infernal Affairs (I).Unlike many sequels which are incomprehensible unless you see all the episodes and in sequence, IF (II) does not make that assumption. Fully half or more of the film repeats IF (I) - it felt like someone took the outtakes of the earlier film and strung it together to make another film, but clearly it wasn't. IF (II) is too well made and makes sense and has continuity. It's just that if you see I or II, you needn't see the other. It's like a film school exercise - take a story and shoot it two different ways or edit it two different ways.Actually, this is much better than a sequel. It's an equal.
movieman_kev Time hopping and "Godfather" homages are the order of the day in this prequel to the masterpiece of Infernal Affairs 1. Helping to flesh out the back story of Ming, Yan, Inspector Wong and future Triad boss Sam. Sam's rise to power is damn good, and Francis NG really came into his own with this film and proved he definitely has the chops as a rival Triad boss whom both sides want taken down. Also it's interesting to see how the rising of the 'bad guys' corresponds with the downfalls and hardships of the 'good guys'. Lines are blurred further then they were in the first film. But this film is very impenetrable if one hasn't seen the first film (and if you haven't, shame on you go buy/rent it NOW), hell it's still a tad confusing even if you did. And the original's fast pace is replaced by more of a methodical slow-burn (not to be mistaken for boring as this film is definitely not that). Despite the differences, this film remains the same awesome quality as the original and comes highly recommended My Grade: A
