Hottoceame The Age of Commercialism
Claysaba Excellent, Without a doubt!!
ShangLuda Admirable film.
Nayan Gough A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
oncel_ilhan The storyline, entertaining trip from Hamburg to Istanbul and the performance of the cast appealed to me.Charming Bleibtreu travels from Hamburg to Istanbul to find love. The questions: Will he be able to find it? Will he find it as he expected? The journey from Hamburg to Istanbul is an adventure, that includes traveling in a lorry, ship and a stolen car. During traveling Bleibtreu and Paul meet strange, interesting and harmful ppl. They also enjoy new cultures.Bleibtreu plays very well. He is especially successful while he is showing his feelings for the Turkish angel. His performance was also outstanding as he having conversations with Paul. Üner plays also great. She lets the audience believe she is an angel.Even though the end was predictable, I enjoyed watching this movie. Yes, you predict what will happen in the end. But you just don't know how it will happen. And you want to see it. However continuously sth surprising happens. Thats why you can be surprised all the time.If you want to have a sweet trip from Hamburg to Istanbul, give this movie a try!
cgyford Controversial German-Turkish filmmaker Faith Akin followed the critical success of his debut feature "Short Sharp Shock" and cemented his popular appeal with this cute rom-com that takes its protagonists from downtown Hamburg to the banks of the Bosporus in Istanbul that proved a successful sophomore feature.Prolific German actor Moritz Bleibtreu makes a likable lead and generates great chemistry with the über-cute Christiane Paul as his sometime love interest whilst excellent support comes from the charming Mehmet Kurtulus at the head of a quirky supporting cast that includes the ephemeral İdil Üner, the insane Branka Katić and a brief appearance from Akin himself. The accomplished filmmaker employs all the standard clichés in this run-of-the-mill road movie that is lifted to a whole new level by a diverse and talented cast and crew who put there passion for film-making onto the screen in a way that has long since deserted the Hollywood factory.Hey, we got a long way to go, man.
HANSDA SOWVENDRA SHEKHAR I love road movies. 'Diarios di Motocicleta,' 'Cheun Gwong Tsa Sit', 'My Own Private Idaho', and this one, IM JULI.The first Faith Akin-film I saw was his most-celebrated and most-awarded picture 'Gegen Die Wand'. I liked 'Gegen Die Wand' but I can't help saying that it was very depressing.IM JULI is good. It is fresh, sunny, lively, and with a lot of delightful moments. The story is very believable. Girl sees boy, boy sees girl, and though the girl has feelings for the boy, the boy is oblivious. So the girl devises a way to express her love for him. Problem is, the plan takes one real long route that sees the boy travelling from Germany, through Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, before ending up in Istanbul, Turkey. In the way he meets a few interesting and good-looking characters. And there is a very amazing soundtrack playing in the background to highlight our hero's adventures. The characters are very lovable, and the actors who play them even more lovable. Moritz Bleibtreu (of 'Lola Rennt') is the boy-next-door; Christiane Paul is the smart July who's in love with him and, quite unknowingly, makes him do a cross-country through eastern Europe; Mehmet Kurtulus as Isa, the mysterious stranger, has the most imposing presence of all; and there's also Birol Ünel (Cahit of 'Gegen Die Wand') as an eccentric character in an underground restaurant where our hero nearly succumbs to the charms of the sexy Luna (played by Branka Katic).Overall, IM JULI is a great film. I enjoyed every moment of it.
MartinHafer This was a sweet comedy that provided lots of entertainment with only a few wrong turns. First the wrong turns. I wasn't exactly thrilled by the notion that the overly controlled school teacher needed to loosen up by smoking some pot. Also, it seemed relatively easy to determine WHO the main character would fall in love with in the end of the film after only shortly after the movie began. HOWEVER, despite these minor problems, I really liked this film. The acting and pacing were excellent and although you had a strong idea where the movie would end, the actually journey there took a lot of surprising twists and turns. The end result is an excellent "chick flick" that will please both men and women alike.
