Plantiana Yawn. Poorly Filmed Snooze Fest.
Acensbart Excellent but underrated film
Ariella Broughton It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
Darin One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
Python Hyena In Her Shoes (2005): Dir: Curtis Hanson / Cast: Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette, Shirley MacLaine, Mark Feuerstein, Ken Howard: Curtis Hanson has become a director of several genres and he seems comfortable wherever he points the camera. Among his other films are L.A. Confidential and Wonder Boys and here again another example of his talent. It regards relations between sisters who differ. Cameron Diaz plays an irresponsible party girl who cannot hold a job, and Toni Collette plays her sister who is a lawyer. She throws Diaz out of her apartment when she is caught sleeping with her boyfriend. Central plot regards Diaz visiting her grandmother in Florida and the reason behind her grandmother's absence. Screenplay is detailed from beginning to end despite the fact the we know where it is headed. Terrific performance by Diaz who will learn that her actions can bare consequences even at the expense of others. Collette learns to let down her guard to make room for trust. Shirley MacLaine is superb as their grandmother who knows the pains of life and refuses to subdue herself to it. Mark Feuerstein plays a co- worker who eventually proposes to Collette. Ken Howard plays Diaz's and Collette's father who carries much guilt about the circumstances surrounding their mother's death. Entertaining film about the bonds that heal despite difficulties in relating thus placing the shoe squarely on the other foot. Score: 9 / 10
851222 Greetings from Lithuania."In Her Shoes" (2005) is a very sweet picture. Acting was very strong, especially by Toni Collette and Shirley MacLaine. Cameron Diaz was OK, but not as memorable as her partners. This i a very well directed, written comedy drama. At running time 2 hours is never drags and is superbly paced. There a some touching moments, but it's not a tear jerker type of a picture. Although it's not the most original story and it's a bit predictable at the moments, but superb acting and very solid craftsmanship makes this movie a surely must see for those who are tired from romantic but uninvolving flicks. Overall, "In Her Shoes" is a very well made sweet movie. It's not a romantic comedy, it has some serious ideas about life, search for yourself and power of family love. Very good movie, i'm glad i gave this movie a chance.
juneebuggy I've seen this a few times now and always really enjoy it. Cameron Diaz is amazing as the irresponsible party girl and Toni Collette is always good, here she plays the responsible driven sister. It lines up like your regular romantic comedy/drama but the story is much deeper and I love discovering why 'Maggie' drinks so much and behaves the way she does. After an indiscretion with 'Rose's' boyfriend she goes to stay with the grandmother they didn't know they had and it gets even better with the inclusion of Shirley MacLain and all the characters at the retirement village. One of my favorite scenes would have to be Maggie struggling to read to the blind, aging professor (Norman Lloyd) Powerful and sad. This movie really is about family and I like how the past is slowly revealed and all members in this damaged family get a chance to heal. I'm also partial to 'Rose' running up those infamous steps in Philadelphia. 03.02.14
Stampsfightclub On scraping cash together homeless and helpless Maggie (Diaz) looks to start a new life away from her controlling sister (Collette) Romantic comedies/dramas are frequently used to market a concept of idealistic love in the face of adversity. Kind of giving hope to the less confident. Which is fair enough as I myself am not confident in such an area. So we look at comedies for a spiritual guidance but also a good time. It is when however a credited all star cast appear and make jokes about current celebrities and zeitgeist topics to make their appeal that these comedies fail. Richard Curtis' Love Actually or He's Just Not That Into You prove how talent can often fail on the basis of following mainstream trends, making the films short term entertainment with no emotional core.In Her Shoes may seem to be heading the same way but it takes the idea of love and puts an appropriate delicate feel on the emotion by having a witty sharp script with sparkling performances. The 2005 picture provides consistent entertainment. From the concept of relationships to the significance of family Curtis Hanson's romantic drama is finely balanced on the real life aspects without diving too much into a soap styled genre. Therefore the events that unfold feel real and yes, the inclusion of appearance and the significance of clothes may feel like another Devil Wears Prada, but this is relative and built with an emotional core unlike Hanson's other hit. These concepts have an obvious feminine vibe but male viewers can take in the bouncy humour without feeling too unappreciated about the inclusion of soft male stereotypes. A certain Cameron Diaz should otherwise suffice.Over a decade since her career making performance in The Mask, Diaz has grown into a renowned star. Here her performance as sexed up Maggie not only challenges the actress emotionally but more appreciatively also, evident in one heart wrenching scene heading towards the emotional climax. Collette lays the unappreciated undertone beautifully with the sibling rivalry showing her true acting qualities. That insecure and worried persona is something that has always stood out for the Australian, particularly in The Sixth Sense and Little Miss Sunshine. There are inclusions of modern day trends such as MTV and fashion as importantly relative in modern culture but with the spirited script and wonderful acts you will only remember the importance of emotions. This picture is therefore evidence that renowned stars can come together and do romance pictures.
