Reviews

XoWizIama Excellent adaptation.
SpunkySelfTwitter It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.
Chirphymium It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
Jonah Abbott There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
will-05196 I am guessing there are a lot of shills being paid to write reviews by the studio or something, it's the only explanation of why absolute and total garbage like this has a rating higher than 3.I'm a fan of horror and no prude - go ahead, shock me, exploiterize some hot wanna-be actress for my titillation, pile on the splatter, let's get down in the gutter & roll around in the filth for a couple of hours. But this... man. It did not work on any level whatsoever. I mean, come on... where's my kicks here? This is just... no. Too many problems to bother going into. Frankly this steaming mound doesn't deserve any more time spent on it. Trust me: it's a stinker. And, uh, ladies... me and the lads, when we're fishing, we don't generally sit around plotting gang rapes, but maybe we are really rare atypical men. Maybe most other guys like gang rape as much as they like fishing (but, like fishing, can't always find the time to do it, I guess). So ladies, rest easy, most of us have better things to do than hatch rape plots against you, although I assure you, you do indeed look lovely today.Sleep tight... there are MEN out there... everywhere...Evil... evil men. One day they're inventing civilization, inventing tampons, changing the tyre, changing the oil, defending you from sabretooth tigers, arresting the bad guy, killing the spider, opening the stubborn jar lid... the next day, they're carrying on like these brutes.Apologies for everything.
The Movie Diorama Honestly, I'm not sure how to wrap my thoughts around this and cohesively write a review. Everything about this film, is just wrong. But that's the point. Does that necessarily make it a good film? Perhaps, perhaps not. A young woman stays in a remote cabin where she is terrorised and ambushed by a group of men (including the local sheriff). Presumed missing, she returns to seek justice by her own twisted methods. "Twisted" is gently describing this harrowing story. Simply put, this is disgusting. Two horrific rape scenes, elaborate torture set pieces and an eye wincing amount of gore. Clearly it was going for the shock factor, to which it succeeds. Hands down, I've not seen anything quite like this. The amount of comments I was making throughout its runtime..."seriously!? You're going to rape her again!?", "Oh she's going to do it...oh ohhhh...OHHH she did it!!" and "Revenge is a dish best served cold, even if it is a shotgun up the bum!". I'm not a huge fan of the "torture" sub-genre, I believe it is rather divisive but I can see its appeal to genre enthusiasts. However, making something shocking just so that it is memorable and intimidating doesn't make a good "film". You have to encompass every aspect. At the end of the day, it is a glorified B-Movie about revenge. I'll give credit to Sarah Butler, it cannot have been easy to film certain scenes and I thought she did pretty well. Everyone else could've been replaced and it wouldn't have made a difference. The second act was a slog, the interval where we wait for her to reappear seemed to go on forever. She then all of a sudden becomes an expert at torture, I mean some of those contraptions like the bath filled with lye were just too elaborate. Don't get me started on why she would even stay in that cabin alone anyway! Did we need a remake of the 1978 cult film? Who knows, but we've got one and it is brutally savage. Not necessarily my type of genre, but I can appreciate the fan base for these.
tausiscool This remake is surprisingly well executed (excuse the pun)! The suspense builds in a slick and stylish fashion and all the actors playing their parts brilliantly (even the weird little hillbilly old man- this performance is probably very accurate in fact, haha). The director builds hatred in the viewer against the rapists by the prolonged scenes of sexual injustice. This makes the revenge all the more satisfying and the way the violence is carried out is super entertaining. The director uses the same technique of anticipation and gratification in ISOYG 2 (which is also a decent watch) but in that film there is pointless dialogue to pad the film out when it really doesn't need it. In This classic remake however, every moment is golden and necessary. Top marks to the maker who clearly understood the genre and how to do it right, avoiding the trap of diluting the film through moral and ethical cliché. Lets not talk about the third ISOYG as by then he seems to have moved away from all that made this one great. What was he thinking?! So much credit for this though, superb.
jjparish These actors could actually act. The rape scenes were far more believable and the revenge scenes were far more inventive and spectacular. More nudity was needed though considering this was a multiple rape film. And considering how unhinged jennifer became we really needed to see her kill the sheriffs family. The film wussed out on that one. Overall though, very enjoyable and female empowering when the killings start kicking in.
