Verity Robins Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
Gary The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Lee Eisenberg Having gotten his start with the Austin Powers and Meet the Parents movies, Jay Roach turned to politically-themed movies. One example was 2012's "Game Change", about John McCain's hiring of Sarah Palin as his running mate, only to see the Alaska governor make a fool of herself and eventually sink his presidential campaign. The star is Julianne Moore - who won a well deserved Emmy for the role - as Palin, perfectly impersonating the self-proclaimed mama grizzly in all her blithe ignorance and lack of preparation. At one point, she lashes out at the campaign for not letting her be herself; brainless though Palin may have been, she knew that the "real Americans" liked her. McCain (Ed Harris) takes more of a backseat to strategist Steve Schmidt (Woody Harrelson), who slowly but surely realizes that he made a mistake in hiring Palin and not sufficiently vetting her.The movie certainly took me back to 2008. The long campaign, the Russia-Georgia War, Tina Fey's impersonation of Palin on SNL, and finally Barack Obama's victory. With that, millions thought that the US had finally moved beyond its racist past. We never guessed that eight years later we would see the ascension to power of an unhinged demagogue (never mind that Donald Trump didn't win the popular vote). Would that it were 2008 again.Anyway, it's a fine movie. The rest of the cast includes Peter MacNicol (Sophie's Choice), Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) and Ron Livingston (Office Space). As for Jay Roach, he also directed "Recount" (about the 2000 election), "The Campaign", "Trumbo" and "All the Way" (about Lyndon Johnson's first year in office).
Rafi Jaan First, I know it's not just TV and it's HBO but come on, is all of that profanity really necessary?! I'm not calling for censorship, just that there was no need for all the f-bombs to be dropped. I'm all for artistic choices that film makers make to tell their stories -- no matter how much profanity, violence or sexual content they need to use -- but there CAN be such a thing as using something that serves no purpose, and the story could have done without (in this case, the excessive cursing). Now that that's out of the way, I have to admit that this is an entertaining and very well-acted movie. The cast do a very good job in every scene and even for those of us familiar with the story, there are enjoyable moments, well-written scenes and even a few surprises. So despite the foul language, I highly recommend this movie. 7 out of 10.
exhavoc-47787 This movie delves into not only the events that took place during the election of 2012, but in short depicts the hardships involved in the process that goes into running for such political seats as Vice President, or any seat therein. It take you further into the process than ever before. From this you get to see the strains and pains of political figures, and to problems they must face. I am in no way a republican, nor a democrat, but after watching this i have a little more respect for Sara Palin. If you want a movie that helps you understand the politicians plight in campaigning, this one is hands down the best. I wouldn't say it was well acted, but the acting was decent enough, but when you get down to it, the insight of the political process is well made!
petarmatic I love watching films about American politics. Especially when liberal Hollywood makes film about the Republicans. Hell it is a clash of civilizations! In this particular film I love acting, these characters really look like real politicians. I especially loved Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin and Woody Harelson as Shmidt. This is a moment to pay a tribute to Woody for all the great roles he did in his past. Woody we remember you drinking beer in Sarajevo. Many more great roles, especially acting defeated Republican political advisers. All in all if you like politics, and most of you do, and if you like good acting, and most of you do, this is a film for you.
