This subtle approach was difficult to see because it was disguised in the form of depicting the era before the revolution. Since it was just barely more than half a decade before the end of the Cultural Revolution, the film crew understandably took a very cautious approach on this extremely sensitive topic by eulogizing the post revolutionary era regime and criticizing the old regime. Nonetheless, it was a significant small step toward facing the reality.
