callanvass This movie is technically well done with a strong message behind it, but come on, Tyler! A 130 minutes is just overkill for me. It's all just too much. I've come to expect Perry films to be marred by the melodramatics, but I've always admired Perry's passion. I don't always agree with his beliefs, but his passion when it comes to romance is absolutely great. I had to take a deep breath when this movie was over with because of the emotional exhaustion. As weird as this might sound, that isn't a compliment. He over did it WAY too much. I also didn't like how Thandie Newton's character was written. It's a thoroughly unlikable character in my opinion. The rest of the cast do well, but I was just too exhausted by the end of it. And the ending… It wasn't enough to leave me fully depressed while watching this, and Perry pulls this? Final Thoughts: I saw this a couple years ago and just remember being in awe at how depressing it was. I loved to be moved, but Perry needs to learn when to stop. Prepare to be depressed if you choose to see this5/10
J Porter There are just too many negatives in this film.1. Why are the overwhelming majority of the women in this film pecan colored, with long-hair? A vicious distortion of the 'real life' its supposed to be portraying.2.The writing one dimensional and is at or below the 6th grade level. Janet Jackson's office scenes were so thin and badly written (phoned-in for sure) I was actually embarrassed for her!.. poor child had nothing to work with!3.The set-designs, strictly 101.4. The poems of were a cute artistic insertion but mid-way through became laboriously pretentious considering everything else in this movie had the subtly of a Hummer. Why do "Black" films still, to this day in age, feel the need to "teach" the most banal life lessons? It's 2010. We've already had domestic abuse & HIV scenarios hammered into us for years already. NEXT! This movie is an after-school special, for colored people.
Jacin Harter Cco This is the screen adaptation of Ntozake Shange's 1975 play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf". This title alone is heavy with imagery and poetry enough to anticipate what follows it. The film is more marketably titled "For Colored Girls" - which takes from it any arching, celestial beauty or hollowing pain."For Colored Girls" was adapted, directed, and produced by Tyler Perry. It's surprising that a man would be chosen for such an acclaimed and iconic piece of African American literature and black feminism. Initially Shange had qualms about Perry taking on the film: "I worried about his characterizations of women as plastic", referring to Perry comic works with his Madea character. Later she said Perry had done a fine job, but that the film wasn't quite "finished"."For Colored Girls (Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf)" is just that. It's not meant for everyone; it is an open and heartfelt letter, and you will know if it's for you. "For Colored Girls" shows the scars and salves, the bruises and bonds that can tear a woman down and then bring her back up again. This movie is not easy to watch, and it's not meant to be; life isn't easy, it doesn't pull punches, but neither is it completely without hope. This movie deals with abuse, infidelity, rape, abandonment, love, sisterhood, strength, and beauty. The colors of this movie are infinite. Each of the main characters has her own bow of the rainbow. The artistic palate full with some outstanding dramatic performances, dancing, opera, poetry, and heart. This movie is for the colored girls who have felt joy and despair, who have seen both sides of the moon. It was made for you, and I hope you get the chance to see it.Aloha
Honest_Critique Why o why do movies like this get the green light? From start to finish is was an absolute bore-fest. There was no clear direction , The acting wasn't great , The plot was all over the place. AS for the title of the movie! Can you imagine the national outcry there would be if anyone released a movie called "For white girls"??? AS ever its one rule for one and another rule for the another. If your ever bored one night and you are considering renting this movie then i would suggest as an alternative that you go out and buy a pot of paint, put some of it on the wall and watch it dry, You will have a far more rewarding time than watching this movie. In short avoid this movie like the plague , Its depressing , Its boring, its rubbish!
