Synopsis

A joint task force operation between the Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Army has been formed to dismantle one of the largest drug cartels operating in South America. Multiple attempts to assault the cartel's mountainous compound have been thwarted by a Scorpion-attack helicopter piloted by a cartel leader, Eric Stoller (Bert Rhine). After having several aircraft shot down, most notably a pair of UH–60 Black Hawks and their AH–1 Cobra escorts, the army turns to the new AH–64 Apache attack helicopter, which can match its enemies' maneuverability and firepower.

Bearded MovieGuy I loved this movie when I was younger, and liked it now that I have seen it again. Back then I thought Nicolas Cage's character was so cool, now he is still kinda cool but man is there way too much overacting from Cage and pretty much everybody else, well except for Sean Young, who kinda doesn't act, she is just there, like a cardboard cut out of her with a tape player saying her lines would have be just as real, maybe even better. Thankfully Tommy Lee Jones is great, and I have used the Full Tilt Boogie line a bunch of times. So, decent movie, cool helicopters and Tommy Lee Jones is just too awesome for his own good. 3 Beards Out Of 5
Checkmate357 Ignoring the plot, ignoring Nicholas Cage, ignoring all the other actors, this is the movie that hooked me on TLJ. He absolutely nailed the character! His performance alone is worth watching the movie. It almost seems the character was written with him in mind. I may disagree with most of his political positions but he is one amazing actor (MIB2 aside - even he couldn't save it).Was the plot a ripoff of Top Gun? Debatable, though there were definite similarities. I'm not a big Nicholas Cage fan (except for National Treasure), and Fire Birds did not change that, although he did have a few good one-liners. His performance was slightly above mediocre. The special effects were good, but not great.I would recommend seeing this movie once, and then draw your own conclusions. TLJ's portrayal of Brad Little ("Gonna take my little girl fishing...") is well worth seeing. The rest of the movie? Eh, maybe not so much.
Sparquelito One of the two all-time worst movies in the history of motion pictures. The other one (Mac & Me) is probably worse in it's own way, but it had a lower budget and no big stars, so it gets a pass. The Script: The dumbest, most hackneyed and trite bit of screen-writing I've ever witnessed. I kept asking myself through the picture, "Why can't these actors recognize that the lines they are speaking are complete and utter crap?"Technical Details: A squadron of Apache helicopters wiped out by one guy riding around in a small observation helicopter. Ridiculous. Sean Young operating the Mast Mounted Sight controls from the left seat, while flying her little observation helo, (normally flown from the right seat) single-pilot. Equally-ridiculous. Nick Cage and Tommy Lee Jones are walking along somewhere in South American, pondering an orange, when all of a sudden a series of explosions occur directly behind them. Instead of dropping to the ground for cover, they immediately turn and sprint DIRECTLY IN THE DIRECTION OF THE EXPLOSIONS. Astoundingly bad production decisions.Aside from all that, this is actually an entertaining evening rental. IF YOU WANT A REALLY GOOD COMEDY. Rent it, trust me, you'll laugh so hard you may need to go to the hospital for some sort of in-patient hernia treatment.Ask for an orange with your breakfast.
hailtothevictorz I must admit, I busted a gut several times during this crap-fest... how these top-notch actors were directed into this mess is still beyond me... the four-star IMDb rating is insaneI wish more comedies gave me the giggles like this oneNicolas Cage and Tommy Lee Jones struggle to look serious against writing that is shoddy and painful to hear... I really am only writing this review because this is, in my opinion the worst big-budget movie of our time... I think it would have made a great MST3K targetThis actually spawned a really bad TV show, too! That gives it extra creditShould have starred Dolph Lungren and The Rock
