Dotbankey A lot of fun.
FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Rosie Searle It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Mccadoo From what I've read this movie had a lot of problems getting to the screen. Script re-writes, then more re-writes, finally being released, barely, years after it's target date...I'm glad it was finally released though because it's a fun movie to watch. It's quirky and funny and stupid and silly and thoughtful and sad all at the same time. That's a lot for a movie with less than a two hour running time but this one pulls it off.And you don't have to be a fan of Star Wars, or Star Trek, to enjoy this ride, they make fun of everyone along the way, sometimes in hilarious ways and sometimes in kind of dumb ways. Then suddenly at the end it turns out to be a story about friendship and loyalty and loss and is sad and thoughtful and uplifting all at once. That's a neat trick for a movie that less than an hour earlier depicted a street brawl (sort of) between a bunch of Star Trek and Star Wars nerds, in Iowa of all places! And hey, if for no other reason watch it just to see Kristin Bell in that gold Star Wars Bikini!
misspac-man-85133 This movie was so close to being a good comedy. Don't get me wrong, I love Star Wars and I love the idea of this movie, but if there is when thing I get tired of quickly is the "geek" stereotype portrayed in this film. Eric and Linus were much more believable nerds than Hutch and Windows whose roles simply seemed to be to show off that nerd stereotype of being clueless with women, living with their parents and looking like the season starters of "Beauty and the Geek". I know it may seem like a minor gripe, but even with modern shows like "Big Bang Theory" that stigma seems to remain which sucks, because majority of nerds aren't like that anymore and it's hard to identify with a movie that almost seems to insult what we (nerds) are.
Mr-Fusion What's nice about "Fanboys" is that it takes us back to that pre-"Episode I" period when Star Wars fans weren't divided along trilogy lines (if you've spent much time on the Internet in the last, let's say 14 years, you'll know what I'm talking about). It was an innocent time, believe it or not.The charm of this movie is due to its cast. Our five heroes are a likable group of actors. Jay Baruchel, Dan Fogler and Kristen Bell get the best lines, and seeing Bell take down Fogler in a headlock was pretty funny. I do love her character's spunk. And the filmmakers went to some lengths fill out the rest with famous faces (the names here will surprise you). A lot of the humor here rests on cheap gags and a few tired jokes (most of which is aimed at the die-hards in the audience), but for the most part, "Fanboys" is a fun road trip.6/10
sastorytellerfilms Fanboys isn't a terrible movie however with a 3 million dollar budget I felt cheated they couldn't at least get George Lucas to make a cameo. Honestly there really isn't a lot of star wars stuff in it either besides a museum of costumes and artifacts from other lucas films. Not even sure is they filmed at the actual ranch? Regardless, this film comes very short on some desperately needed extras. George Lucas actually being in it. I did love the scene where someone gets to kiss carrie fisher. That was an epic moment along with Shatners appearance. I think if it hadn't been for cameos from shatner, fisher, billy dee williams, and ray parks this film would probably have never made any money. It barely made it past the half million mark in earnings so for the people getting offended at bad reviews it's just facts. So I'll give fanboys 5 stars for a good effort but the writing comes up short of anything truly genius considering all the sexual humor that uuuummmm star wars films do not need to be awesome. ~ S A Storyteller
