Contentar Best movie of this year hands down!
filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Jonah Abbott There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
YourFamilyExpert WHAT'S EARTH ABOUT? 90-minute version of the incredible BBC documentary miniseries Planet Earth.IS IT ANY GOOD? (GRADE: A-) What the film version lacks in the miniseries' thoroughness, it makes up for in a breathless pace that relentlessly transports you all over the world (as any great adventure film should). The footage is, quite simply, some of the most stunning ever captured on film, in any genre. What's more, Earth works as a riveting drama, following three families (polar bears, humpback whales, and African elephants) as they try to survive predators, climate change, and the search for food, over the course of one year. I found myself invested in the survival of these animals as much or more than any fictional character, due at least in part to clever editing and skillful narration by James Earl Jones. The wonder of nature makes for a terrific blockbuster.IS IT OKAY FOR YOUR KIDS? Earth is rated G. There are some moments of animals in peril and some scenes of animals being attacked by predators, though thankfully there is no gory or bloody footage.ANY WORTHWHILE MESSAGES? With perseverance, grit, and teamwork you can survive almost anything.
Python Hyena Earth (2007): Dir: Alastair Fothergill, Mark Linfield / Narrator: James Earl Jones: Extraordinary documentary about the function of life. Filmmakers Alastair Fothergill and Mark Linfield create not only one of the best films of the year, but they also re-introduce documentaries to movie goers. They begin in the cold Arctic as a mother polar bear and her two cups search for food. The male polar bear is also searching for food but having much more difficulty. There is a great scene where the male comes across a herd of walruses and desperate, he attempts to take one down but fails. From there it hits the rain forests as hatchlings emerge for their first flight. Then in hot Africa a herd of elephants travel in search of water. There is a great confrontation sequence where elephants face off against lions for the water hole. While elephants certainly dominate by size, lions wait patiently because by night, their sight is much better. Then ocean footage oversees the migration of humpback whales as they travel the long haul from one destination to another. James Earl Jones provides the deep voice narration as these stories unfold. For those who enjoy hours of Animal Planet and enjoy wildlife programs, then this will suffice them. Beautifully shot with intriguing insight upon how the planet operates as well as a wonderful message regarding wildlife and the struggle for survival. Score: 10 / 10
Dominic LeRose We're lucky to live on a planet in our universe with such uniqueness towards the living organisms and nature we have on Earth. We're also lucky that a species developed art in the form of cinema. Put those two concepts together and you get 'Earth.' James Earl Jones narrates this beautiful documentary about animals and nature around the world. From the majestic birds of paradise in Papua New Guinea to roaring lions in Tanzania, 'Earth' portrays the natural world like you have never seen. The cinematography on the big screen is breathtakingly beautiful and educates the audience about the life of magnificent creatures. This documentary has so many unique creatures and shows you how they interact with the world around them. This involves mating, hunting, finding shelter, and surviving. Nature is a majestic outcome that we're very lucky to have due to the pure luck science has thrown at us. Cinema is the greatest art from from humankind due to our advanced creativity. It is important that we experience and preserve both,, so that documentaries like 'Earth' can continue to be shown.
saad hayat The portrayal of nature was amazing, because its clips are taken from the wonderful 'Planet Earth'. It seemed not only the feature film version, but also a more global warming and conservation adjusted version. However, the storytelling seemed a bit loose and the transitions from story to story were a bit clumsy. The narration was a bit let down at first but as I kept watching it became difficult to take. It was so dull. I watched the US version/narration. At some places, it was difficult to understand the wording of the narrator, where I had to rewind and listen to it again to get a better hearing. I'm not complaining about David Attenborough not narrating, it's just that this narrator does a brilliant job at turning this visual masterpiece into a drab and unclear audio experience. Since, in this documentary the narration was absolutely essential to get the information through, this vague narration scored really poorly, in my opinion.
