A story that's too fascinating to pass by...

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

I do enjoy comedies, and when I saw the cover for this movie and read the synopsis, I gave the movie a chance, because it sounded like it had potential to be something quite funny.Granted, there were some hilarious moments here and there throughout the course of the movie. But the overall picture just wasn't all that impressive, and it felt like something that had already been done countless times in other comedies. And that whole thing with a man playing a woman routine is sort of getting old, I mean it has already been done in movies such as "Big Mommas House", "Big Mommas House 2", "Mrs. Doubtfire", "White Chicks" and so forth. So it felt like the script was just written after a marathon of watching those movies. The acting in the movie was adequate, although I can't really claim to have found anyone being particularly outstanding in comparison to one another. Some of the characters were quite outstanding though, with Madea being the most outrageous and memorable, of course.Having a few good laughs here and there, wasn't hardly enough to lift up the movie, and for me it turned out be a less than mediocre movie experience. I did watch the entire movie, so yes, it does have some entertainment value. However, this is hardly a movie that I will return to watch a second time around.

If you're looking for full on Tyler Perry comedy, don't watch this one. Every time I watch this movie, I laugh and I cry. I've known women who've been cheated on, and it changed them from sweet and happy, to vindictive people who trust no one. I've known families torn apart by drugs and alcohol, and the pain I see in Diary of A Mad Black Woman is dead on. Yep, I know older ladies who carry a pistol in their handbags. Maybe that's why I am so attached to this film. I know these people. DOAMBW is rough on the emotions. The pain is palpable, and we need Madea to break up the hard parts. It's like when you have sickness and death in the family, and you get punchy and silly. You have to laugh to keep from crying. The pretty people in this movie are really beautiful. Who could ever get tired of looking at Kimberly Elise and Shemar Moore? When I hear the voice-over of Kimberly Elise reading the diary entries, it's so realistic. It's the exact things you think when you are falling for someone and trying not. I've read a lot of negative reviews about this movie, but I just don't see the problems. It isn't a documentary after all.

Helen (Kimberley Elise) is a black woman who is married to the very well know and powerful lawyer Charles (Steve Harris) who gets thrown out of her home one unexpected night. The high-class woman is then forced to go from rich to poor in a matter of minutes. She has to go from this large lavish home in the gated community to her grandmother Madea's(Tyler Perry) small home in the center of the ghetto. She then is forced to make a living for herself, which she has never had to do before. Along with trying to get rid of the U-Haul guy Orlando (Shemar Moore) who is falling for her but she has no interest in him. She eventually gives him a chance and falls for him just as much as he has fallen for her. Helen will soon be faced with a hard decision though, to stay with someone she loves or go and tend to the man that threw her out with the motive of seeking revenge on him.Revenge isn't always as sweet as you think it will be. This can be seen when Helen is given that opportunity to get him back. But she is quick to realize it wasn't as good as she hoped it would be. She also realizes she could have lost the one she loves by taking this opportunity. It's similar to Madea's Family Reunion when Victoria sought revenge on her daughter Vanessa for causing her to lose her rich husband. The reoccurring want to seek revenge is a motif on its own. The use of high-key lighting just adds to the affect of the already intense scenes such as when Orlando says that she is a bitter black woman but her response is "No I'm mad as hell." The fact that revenge was sought after it never brought true happiness like love did.

I was given the wrong impression about this movie. I had family members raving about how FUNNY this movie was, and I never heard any other reviews to contradict this. So, with me being a big comedy fan, I watched this movie with the eagerness of a child on his birthday. Now, it is very easy for me to state why I was disappointed with this movie. It was NOT a comedy. Madea was NOT funny. She was humorous, yes, but funny?... NOT. This movie never even hinged on being a comedy, it was a sappy drama from the beginning. As I patiently awaited this movie to transform to the hilarious film I'd heard about, I was just dragged deeper and deeper into the sentimentally rich snoozer that it was. I am not a fan of dramas. Sure, there are dramas that I like (mostly biopics), but I know that they are dramas going in. I certainly am not a fan of romance (it's the guy in me). But, it is especially criminal when a drama or romance dresses in comedy clothing. If I knew from the start that this movie was a drama/romance that was going to be bogged down with some mawkish "message" I would have avoided this film and this rating and review would never have had to be issued. But, alas I was tricked, I paid the price, and now I have to let the world know.
