Wonderful character development!

One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

My very first review, since the message boards are no longer here. I remember going to see this film when it was released, on a free movie night for the college campus. Anyway, on with the movie. This was the movie my friend/roommate and I chose. Being a Tyler Perry film, we thought it would be another comedy in the vein of Madea. We were mistaken. As much as I like his comedies, this film was a great change of tone, this time around. The events surrounding the protagonist and his children, are sadly similar to what my father went through before he gained full custody of my older half brother. Very, very eerily similar. There were a few times during the movie, where I looked over at my friend, and she pulled out a tissue and was wiping the tears from her eyes. All because of what happened in the beginning of the film and when the girls were being abused by their mother and her boyfriend. We left the theater awestruck. Powerful acting from the entire cast! I didn't realize until I scrolled through the filmography earlier, but those three sisters are sisters in real life! Same first names too. How cool is that? I mean, you can tell they are sisters through their chemistry. Yes, this probably my favorite Tyler Perry movie that I have ever seen, by far.

Loved this movie and rate it as Tyler Perry's best. Films where he is not dressing up as a woman (which does not work in my opinion) are his best. This one and 'Why did I get married' stand out to me.Idris Elba does a passable American in this as Monty, a mechanic fighting for custody of his daughters from his ex wife, played by the brilliant Tasha Smith.Gabrielle Union is really good and for my money one of the best actresses around. But it is the three little girls, played by real life sisters Sierra, Lauryn and China McClain that stand out in this movie, they are brilliant actresses for their ages and have personalities that shine through.Also good to see Louis Gossett Jr. in a role that really suited him.The story is a good one and you root for him to get his daughters back.Great little movie, well worth a watch.

There are two moments in this movies that I don't understand. One of the girls was caught at school selling drugs why wasn't the cops called especially when she was staying with her mother and her boyfriend. Two the rape case was closed it should not have disregarded. Also wouldn't the why didn't anyone say that he was falsely accused of rape. An seriously how long did the police investigating Jennifer's boyfriend two hours! The man has a reputation of selling drugs and he has three girls living under the same roof. This guy is suppose to be a big drug dealer the man only has like four thugs working for him. Why did it take the guy running his car into the other guys car for the nieghborhood to band together to take him down. This movie has a lot of padding. This movie is flat as tap water. BET plays this movie to death.

Tyler Perry's Medea-less tale of a father trying to raise his daughters but finding trouble from the girls mother who has taken up with a drug dealer.Good little movie with a nice sense of place. Certainly moralistic and a tad simplistic (as all his stories are), but enjoyable none the less. Its a good film but has little that will make it stand out from the rest other than its good film. (I'm left to wonder if Perry's rather busy dance card will hurt his film out put since with a TV show and now several films a year I have to wonder if he will be able to craft films that stand out, or will they be like this good, but forgettable?) Worth watching- though odds are you'll forget you've ever seen it.
