InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Donald Seymour This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
DBLurker From start till the end, Mark's character, our protagonist, is shown as the golden boy who is not only awesome at doing what he does, but just cannot take a misstep that will result in total failure even if he's forced to do something. He breezes through all challenges in his path while the "big bad" guys spend time trying to act scary or plotting something, while being one of THE lamest bad guys I've ever seen. They not only DON'T look threatening, but they act that way as well. There comes only ONE moment where I felt "Hmm, wow, they actually did that?" concerning the death of a main character, but they even chicken out of that in a few minutes.Seriously, what exactly IS the point of this movie? Is it to show how awesome Mark's character is? Cause the ending not only shows that but proves it. It's ridiculous. This movie is a really dumb "action" (if you call people walking around fast "action", then I guess..) movie that fails to be a "entertaining" dumb action movie. Meh!
crystalart I really expected more out of this movie.I like Mark Walberg generally. "Boogie Nights" was wonderful, and I also enjoyed "Happenings"."Contraband" doesn't match up against these other films. It's disjointed, choppy, and difficult to keep up with.If you like Mark, you'll probably enjoy this movie.Without him it wouldn't be much. That's starpower for you.It begins to pick up speed at about 1:20 minutes. This is probably a watch-it-once-and-forget-about movie, but you might like to watch it once.
mrpoizun If all you want is an entertaining action film, this one is completely acceptable. Mark Wahlberg plays Mark Wahlberg, and I happen to like his usual screen persona, that of likable tough guy. But this movie does require a LOT of suspension of disbelief. Fist of all, there's the casting. The worst is Giovanni Ribisi. A less-imposing bad guy you'll never see. His weird high-pitched voice with an indecipherable accent along with a few verbal ticks will have you wondering why anyone would be afraid of him. Then there's Kate Beckinsale. It's impossible to believe that this elegant British beauty could be the foul-mouthed trailer park trash wife of a lowlife ex-smuggler. Even more laughable is the guy who plays her brother, a greasy, zit-faced, moronic little dweeb who couldn't possibly be related to her unless he was adopted from the pound. Beyond that, there are the usual absurdities of movies. The police never show up unless the script requires their presence, there's seldom any consequences for criminal acts, etc. In the end, Wahlberg is really just as bad as any other criminal. He's just more likable and intelligent. And the movie is an interesting look into the world of contraband smuggling on cargo ships. Have fun watching it. But be sure to check your sense of reality at the door.
philipfoxe I do hope this is the worst film Wahlberg has been in, coz it would be hard to imagine one worse. It is a tiresome, generic, 'last time heist' protagonist reformed crim who has to take on one last job where every conceivable thing goes wrong. You can almost hear the scriptwriters daring each other to put in yet another ridiculous clichéd line. The only good thing is the laughs at how slapstick scene after slapstick scene is piled on top of the last one. Couldn't even make it to the end. Nothing makes sense, people take pointless risks, the nasty dealer is mental ...and so on....Not even sure why this film was made.Never made the big screen in the UK; but then, only the better Hollywood movies do, which tells you something. Even the rip off scene from The Italian Job(original and best) should be funnier, but by then I was slipping into a coma...
