Rio Hayward All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Janae Milner Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
Sarita Rafferty There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
pascaloetterli I recently watched "Night on Earth" by Director Jim Jarmusch. Besides being a typical Arthaus movie, I didn't know, what to write about it and decided to give it a rewatch. "Broken Flowers" made it easier for me and I really liked it. Bill Murray is perfect in the role of a notorious womanizer trying to find out which one of his former partners wrote him a letter that she had a son with him. He's going for a search in the whole country, which makes this movie looking like a different kind of roadmovie. The women are played by great actresses such as Delpy, Lange, Stone, Conroy and Sevigny. The story is very straightforward, it all comes down to the interaction between Don and the women. It's at once comedy and drama, but nothing emotionally strong. To me it had something of a roadmovie and had also that "Up in the Air" travelling feeling. It's a fine film with some great moments but likewise it was not outstanding either. Jim Jarmusch is loved by the female audience and this movies shows why: he understands them well and his female characters are interesting. He's like the American Almodovar. You must like this kind of movie-making and most importantly: you must like Bill Murray.
namashi_1 'Broken Flowers' is a delight. A terrific little film, about an aging Don Juan, who embarks on a journey of a lifetime. Jim Jarmusch & Bill Murray offer a story, that is funny, melancholic but ultimately, rewarding. 'Broken Flowers' Synopsis: As the extremely withdrawn Don Johnston is dumped by his latest woman, he receives an anonymous letter from a former lover informing him that he has a son who may be looking for him. A freelance sleuth neighbor moves Don to embark on a cross-country search for his old flames in search of answers.'Broken Flowers' works from start to end. Reason? The magnificently Written Screenplay by Jarmusch himself, is incredibly engaging & engrossing. You are with the protagonist & its fun to tag along in his journey, where he ends up reliving his youth. I was throughly engrossed even by its supporting characters. Jarmusch has penned every character solidly. Jarmusch's Direction is applaud-worthy, as always. 'Broken Flowers' is undoubtedly amongst his finest films to date.Bill Murray is astonishing here. The Acting Legend delivers an unforgettable turn as the man who must catch up with what he left behind. Murray portrays his part with remarkable conviction. After Lost In Translation, this is his best performance to date. The Supporting Cast also deliver wonderfully. Sharon Stone leads the pack & is excellent. Frances Conroy is genuinely affecting, while Jessica Lange is mature. Jeffrey Wright is fantastic, in a meaty role. Christopher McDonald is first-rate. Julie Delpy & Tilda Swintion shine in cameos, as well. On the whole, 'Broken Flowers' works on every level. A Must Watch!
bobbyhollywood First, a good job was done by all involved in this work. I missed the first fifteen minutes of this film, and had to guess as to why Mr. Johnston was searching. Not watching Every detail, I just went with the actors, and thoroughly enjoyed it, all but the last. Having read the description of this movie, only a minute or two ago, I now know why things ended as they did - sounds logical, although I would have given Mr. Johnston a different reason to go searching, which has been done, but I feel Bill Murray could have carried it away with flowers. One scene truly surprised me, and it was well done. I would have to say, even though I was wrong in my idea of why Mr. Johnston was searching, I did enjoy the movie, and as I have said, a good job was done by all.Always looking forward to Bill Murray's work.
Adam This movie is a mystery. I don't mean the movie itself, I mean the fact that it is in any context considered a comedy as well as the fact that it has been reviewed as such. If it was indeed trying to be comedy, I should deduct half of the three stars I've given it, but that would be cruel, although without Bill Murray that may be where this would have wound up in my opinion. The premise was interesting, the execution plodding, and the visuals boring. I'm not sure where to even begin with the list of cinematic crimes this movie committed. Could it be the sometimes nonsensical dialog? Should I pick on the repetitive driving shots used? Maybe I could comment on the number of unnecessary scenes scattered throughout the film. I will just leave all of that there, which may be for the best, because I don't think I have enough time to go into them with any detail. I will say that a movie that could have been interesting and engaging failed to hit either of those marks. Bill Murray plays Don Johnston, a man who received a letter informing him that he has a 20 year old son who is searching for his father. As a man who makes his money in the tech industry, yet has none of this technology himself, he relies on plans laid out by his neighbor and friend, who is determined to help him get to the bottom of the mystery. His search takes him to places. We don't know what places, because the movie was devoid of many details, including that. We know he was involved with the women he visits, and that's about it. We have no background, no details, no other information. We don't know where he is at any given time, and in one scene, a detail that would customarily be included is noticeably absent. If you never see this movie, you will have undoubtedly found many better ways to spend the hour and 46 minutes it would take to view it in it's entirety. I like to think I'm rather generous when it comes to judging and rating movies, and if that's the case here, it's even worse than I'm letting on.
