SoTrumpBelieve Must See Movie...
Huievest Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
Borserie it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.
ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
filmtogo Even in a horror movie Katherine Heigl falls in love and gets married. Obviously the actress has to be in a movie with two love stories. One of them between two teenies, the other one between our beloved murderous puppet Chucky and his bride Tiffany played by Jennifer Tilly as a stupid over-the-top redneck whore. You can spot a Michael Myers mask and a Hellraiser reference (and many more) in this Barb Wire meets Shrek story. Suddenly it is possible for Chucky to transfer himself into the body of a teenager. One film earlier that wasn't possible and his victim had to be a child. At the same time this 90s teen horror is the best episode of the Chucky-franchise up to this point. Actually that's quite depressing for this franchise.
christopher-underwood I had fond memories of this. Or at least I thought I had. Seems I only saw the first twenty minutes or even maybe only the trailer. Jennifer Tilly is great but she is only in this at the start and later is just the voice of the doll. Indeed for most of this film we get rather stiff performances from the humans and animated ones from a pair of dolls. Predictable, unfunny and loud, this would be just the thing for under fifteens but in UK has a 15 certificate so thats a bummer. I have seen rave reviews for this but then maybe those folk only saw the trailer. This is no thriller, nor a horror, simply a rather poor comedy. There is blood and violence but do dolls count?
Darth-Helmet A month after the events of Child's Play 3 after Chucky (voiced by Brad Douriff) was sliced in the fan at the amusement park at the end, it seems Chucky's old flame Tiffany (played by Jennifer Tilly) who finds his remains in a police station evidence room and takes his body back to her place to stitch him up back together. Now Chucky decides after being treated like dirt by her, he transfers her soul into a bridal doll's body as now both must try to be human again, Chucky's original human corpse is buried with an amulet that is called "the heart of Dambella" which they can be human again if they get some humans. Tiffany gets an idea to call her strong model- like male neighbor named Jesse (Nick Stabile) to go to Hackensack New Jersey to deliver dolls to a cemetery in exchange for 500 dollars. Jesse accepts the offer as he decides to take his girlfriend Jade (Katherine Heigl) to go with him to run away from her strict/bossy police officer of an uncle Chief Warren (John Ritter) and are on the road for Chucky is on the loose killing anyone that gets in his way with the help of Tiffany.A mediocre sequel from writer Don Mancini and Hong Kong director Ronny Yu and is the 4th installment of the popular Child's Play franchise. I saw this in theaters as a teen and thought it was OK, yet this was made after the success of Scream and Mancini who thought he ran out of ideas after part 3 thought that Scream was successful and would love to copy the formula that movie had. Ronny Yu who directed the Hong Kong fantasy cult film "The Bride with White Hair" was hired to direct this movie and later on went to make "Freddy vs Jason" in 2003, the film was an attempt to be scary and funny at the same time but falls flat. Jennifer Tilly sure is hot in the first half and did a great job voicing her doll counterpart yet there were some in-jokes like the Creepshow crate with the Freddy glove, a cheap looking Jason mask, a chainsaw that could be Leatherface's and Michael's mask in the evidence room. Then there's that dumb kill where John Ritter whom is one of my favorite actors by the way gets killed by nails that were latched on a powerful glove compartment that no way would actually work with the nails just flying and nailing through his face. Then Chucky cracks a one- liner saying "Why does that face look so familiar" which is suppose to be a funny reference to Hellraiser but isn't as some of the jokes fall flat.I did liked the one-liner where he murders done on Damien (Alexis Arquette) whom is basically a take on goths and Marylin Manson as Chucky says "It ain't the size that counts a hole it's what you do with it". Some of the kills are quite lame with some okay make-up and puppetry effects by Kevin Yagher but the script is mediocre as hell. Lawrence Dane the Canadian actor whom you remember from Scanners and Happy Birthday to Me plays Lt Danson yet some of the characters aren't likable like in Child's Play 2 but the main leads are strangely likable which is the dolls. The doll sex scene was quite far fetched when it was meant to be funny but totally not funny and Chucky's death was poor compared to the first 3 deaths of him but he did said a great line "Go ahead and shoot, i'll be back! i always come back but dying is such a bitch".Then we have the ending which made me go "Oh no, son of chucky!" which is sequel bait ending that leads to "Seed of Chucky" years later.
FlashCallahan Charles Lee Ray is back because his girlfriend Tiffany revived him, once again in the form of Chuck. Shortly after the couple's reunion, Chucky kills her and brings her back in the form of a girl's bridal doll. The two then embark on a killing spree en route to dig up Ray's corpse, which was buried with a Satanic voodoo charm capable of bringing back the dead......I'm assuming that this was only made because of Scream making horror movies cool again, and also because of the success of Halloween H2O. The Child's Play franchise wasn't the best trilogy in the world, but Chucky was so iconic, it was inevitable that he would 'come out to play' once again, because like all cinematic ghouls, you just can't keep a good villain down. And like Part's two and three, it's all played for laughs, and if your looking for something scary, look elsewhere, because this, like Scream is all about referencing different horror films, and seeing how far they can push the gore factor. The concept of Chucky finally getting a 'mate' is a foolproof concept, plus, the follow on almost writes itself because of the films plot.So the film's narrative is basically a road trip, the dolls kidnap a teen couple, so they can take them to the site of the resurrection, and along the way, carnage ensues Mickey and Mallory style. The horror references can often be quite subtle, and in some instances, literally in your face, but it's fun to spot them. When the writers realise that the concept wears thin after the middle of the second act, their escape clause is to have the dolls swear a lot and and argue, and there is one particular scene that rivals Team America for sheer 'was there any need for that?' audacity of the narrative.Unfortunalty, it's not as clever as what it thinks it is, and runs out of steam during the third act, because you can only find a profane doll hilarious for so long.So all in all, it's perfectly fine, but should have been so much more. And a few scares wouldn't have gone a miss...
