Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
WillSushyMedia This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
Roman Sampson One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
silvan-desouza JP Dutta has made several great films like Ghulami and Batwara in 80s, After the debacle of Kshatriya he returned with Border which brings together Sunny Deol, Suneil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna and a huge cast. The movie is an adaptation from real life events that happened at the Battle of Longewala fought in Rajasthan (Western Theatre) during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and Bangladesh Liberation War. The film shows the life of Army people and how the war was fought. Also in between we have their romantic life shown and their sacrifies which ends into a dramatic climax which may not be 100% real, as in the war only 2 soldiers were killed but yet its well handled.Direction by JP Dutta is good Music by Anu Malik was a big hit, Sandese still remains memorable, Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod do a great job, Hamein Jab Se is a superb romantic song sung by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik. While Ae Jaate is a superb number by Roop Kumar Rathod rest songs are good tooAmongst the towering cast Sunny Deol is superb in his tailormade role, Suneil Shetty too delivers a great performance, after this film he is a regular of JP Dutta films, Akshaye Khanna in his second film does a superb job,Jackie Shroff is good in a small role, Puneet Issar and Sudesh Berry too do a great job, JP Dutta's regular Khulbushan Kharbandra is fab, Amongst actresses Pooja Bhatt is good, Sharbani Mukherjee is okay, Tabu is good too rest are okay
M . this movie is SURELY a parody or spoof. there's just no way anyone can take this silly film seriously. it is so full of cheesy dialogue, unbelievable jingoism and awful, over-the-top performances that there's no way you can watch it without laughing.first, there is some good photography and cinematography in this film. the actions shots are done quite well. but that's where it ends. EVERYTHING ELSE about this movie is absolutely HORRIBLE.this movie was most likely written by the Indian army, as there are just too many references to how much greater India is than Pakistan and how it must be protected at all costs. the rhetoric is soooo thick and performances so wooden that there's really no explanation other than that the Indian military knew they would need some public relations help, especially since they were to go on to detonate five nuclear bombs the year after this film was released.the acting is absolutely horrible, with every character being completely one-dimensional caricatures. the embarrassingly bad character played by sunny deol is taken straight out of an American war b-movie. his unending screaming of silly nationalistic clichés was most likely written by politicians, and serves only as a source of comic relief. every other character is similarly based on cartoon characters....every five minutes, the viewer is reminded about how great India and hindus are, how brave and intelligent they are, how strong and proud they are, how loving and noble they are... this idea, beaten into your head over and over, is followed by explosions and heroic indians beating down those evil pakistanis. this gets so tired and stupid that it's quite clear this movie has nothing else to say - it is completely self-righteous propaganda or ingenious parody.the incredibly bad dialogue, surely written by army children, sees the entire world in black and white, and India is always right, no matter what. it even goes so far as to suggest that god wants India to win and Pakistan to lose, but never shows the pakistani army believing the exact same thing...? of course not, because everyone knows that Pakistan are the bad guys and India is doing god's work, right?? in the middle of all this carnage, no opportunity is missed for these tough guys to drop their guns and take part in silly choreographed dance routines, which are so out of place, that they serve as yet another piece of proof that this film is a spoof and should not be taken seriously.this film exists primarily to support the ideas of conservative warmonger tough guys who like guns and violence and like killing people who don't pray to the same god they do. it fuels the minds of small-minded, nationalistic idiots who believe that India is the greatest country in the world - yet have never traveled outside of India.however, it also serves to satirize these kinds of people, with such an extreme, arnold schwarzenegger-type plot, that it seems to completely undermine and subvert what i assume is the real message of the film. it's quite ironic that this is the case because the makers of this film most likely thought they were creating something amazing but ended up creating something so laughably bad that it can only be enjoyed as making fun of those who support war.
Bharat Modi This movie is a big joke including LOC Kargil. Five love stories scripted in a war movie. I say it is a mere fantasy. Moreover it seemed so funny when sunny deol emerged as a one man army with a grenade launcher and ruined the Pakistani party as if they were dummies waiting to get destroyed. This movie has lacked research though was surplus in emotions. Lakshya is the best war movie made in India. It really depicted the horror of war thanks to a good sound editing and camera work. And of course Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers have no comparison. These two movies show how much research and technical aspects like sound editing and cinematography are the important pillars or a good film. I don't when Indian directors will understand their importance
Pgoel J.P Dutta's brother fought and was martyred in war. He knows and has experienced what he is talking about, the pain that the soldiers' families feel when war is fought. The Indian army and soldiers' stereotypes abound in this movie. Indian soldiers are brave, moral, and fiercely patriotic. The two soldier, Dharam Veer (Akshay)and Mathura Das who doubts this in the beginning are later brought on to the patriotic side before the war is fought. Jackie Shroff, the airbase commander, anxiously waits so he can relieve his brethren. These shots, are very deep and not overdone. It is just symbolic of the deep relationships that are built in this movie. The antiwar message and Indo-Pak friendship message is spoiled a bit by the bravery, heroism of the Indian soldiers and villanizing of the Pakistanis. But I am so glad that he puts it in there. Mere Dushmaan Mere Bhai is a great way to end the movie. The acting in this movie, at least by the men, is superb. Pooja Bhatt excels and leaves an impression even though she is in only briefly. The songs of this movie add a lot to the movie. Sandese Aate Hain is especially touching.
