GrimPrecise I'll tell you why so serious
Platicsco Good story, Not enough for a whole film
BallWubba Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.
Jenni Devyn Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
asdfadsjoi This was a good episode. Enjoyable, liked the main character, and it's well shot. A little devoid of emotion though.
pronto1966 Some episodes of black mirror are very dark. This one has some dark undertones, but it's also fun too. As someone who's interested the real world dev of futurism and artificial reality, I found the concept of this cool. The story is interesting, a bit quirky, lots of tension, with a few cynical nods to the corporate structure of the tech world. And for someone who grew up watching all the old reruns of Original Star Trek, this one was a real treat.
Mrrogersbestneighbor I normally don't write reviews for TV shows or movies, but felt compelled to write one after reading some of the negative reviews. The one thing pointed out by most of the negative reviews (all of the ones I read), is that there are major plot holes. I, for one, get incredible annoyed by gaping plot holes in movies and TV shows. I'm generally a VERY critical person when it comes to any movie or show. When going into any movie, I automatically assume it'll probably be trash, which is why I'm not real keen on going to or watching movies that haven't been extensively reviewed and give me some understanding of what I'm getting into. I don't like wasting hours of my time on churned out movies for teenagers who have not been disappointed enough yet, who will then crack jokes with their friends about how bad that movie was for an hour afterwards. That said, are there gaping plot holes in this episode? Absolutely. But do they detract from the concepts and psychology of the characters on display (which is entirely the main point of the episode)? Absolutely not. It's very rare for me to embrace a movie or a show with gaping plot holes, but don't let that turn you off from watching it. As they can easily be overlooked when you provide thoughtful ideas and concepts as well as a strong character analysis, which is what this episode does. The journey itself was just a means of expressing those ideas. On the other hand, if this was a mindless action film (which I thoroughly enjoy from time to time), then the plot holes would matter as the journey is the entire value of the movie. As I see it, complaining over the plot holes in this episode is like if someone were to make a big deal if someone pronounced a word incorrectly after making a very thoughtful and nuanced statement. Isn't the point of language to communicate an idea or concept? So as long as you understand what the person is communicating, fussing over their incorrect pronunciation is irrelevant to the thoughts or ideas they had expressed. Is the episode perfect? No. But it certainly doesn't deserve 3 stars or lower because of plot holes which are completely irrelevant to the ideas and concepts communicated in this episode.
Mikko Aarnio Like everyone has been saying in comments already, this episode has serious flaws:1) You can't copy a memory from DNA. They could have explained it by lets say having a backup of the memories (as they do on other episodes) with their head implants, but there's no way you can just access others memories and create copy of them.2) If you have Godly powers, you wouldn't act slow in case of disobedience and potentially having people to destroy themselves to stop your amusement. You could just exit the game and reappear on the spaceship, right? Or pause the game and do whatever, you're supposed to be admin. Even in WoW you have admins with commands to immediately appear next to other player (ie. I've reported several people from using bots to farm areas) and I can see them appear right in front of that guy and remove him from game.3) Even if for some reason the system freezes and even the computer runs into some glitch, wouldn't there be at least some backup for the chip to automatically turn off? Maybe a forced exit after 2 hours and asking whether you want to continue playing? Seems like a big security issue for a game or the operating system.4) The update black hole was just nonsense plot point. And escaping through it should have been skipped entirely and focused more on calling the police to shut down the PC put a stop to their mistreatment.5) Why wouldn't you have crewmembers with "real" guns? You're admin. You can make your character invurnerable to shots. Even if you were shot and could be damaged, nothing stops you from respawning again? This wasn't clearly thought out as a rule. This episode has nearly unlimited potential of showing the true terrors of what an admin could do to enslave and humiliate the human AI clones, but it for some reason was dressed up as hopeful escape from a monster... maybe they couldn't find other ways to end episode? Does it have to have an ending? In the episode about Hot Shot, there was no happy ending, there was no change in the system. The guy who got out from the system and got a nice new home to live in still was saddened by his own betrayal of what he stood for. That episode was a masterpiece. This episode... why did it have to end this way???If you want to make "kinda" happy ending then at least try to have the plot being coherent with reality. Why not just let them end their lives? Also missed opportunity to have the admin update version of the game to actually have genitalia for the newly added woman crew member that he clearly felt some attraction throughout the episode. Like this guy clearly hasn't had sex for a long time and surely you'd be at least a bit horny for the opportunity at least for the fake world with no consequences? This episode could have been way darker... like WAYYY DARKER than it originally was intended.
