Borserie it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.
FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Stebaer4 Yes All The Actors including The Real Witches who play "Witches." resemble the actors and Witches of whom's roles they reprise but it's still a dumb premise. The Magic just doesn't cast the same spell that the original show's magic does. But you might still like I did in the theater but go see it to check it out on DVD.As it was heard The original surviving cast were close to doing a "Bewitched Reunion Special" But Turned it down because as Erin Murphy who played "Tabitha" had told me They were close but first Elizabeth turned it down then She did next because after looking at the Script they found out that it just wasn't very good.Which is why Elizabeth Montgomery even told the interviewer(s) at People Magazine."I'd Never do it again because it's already been done and I did it but I did hear one hysterical idea,Penny Marshal talked about remaking it with Billy Crystal and Meryl Streep and Dame Edna Everage as Endora." Yes Penny Marshal did produce this Movie.Truthfully,Stephen "Steve" G. Baer a.k.a. "Ste" of Framingham,Ma.USA
Bob Collins This is an absolutely darling picture that works on so many levels. I've never understood why it didn't connected with more people. Will Farrell's absurdist thing sits well in the context of Nora Ephron's twinkle-in-the-eye romance comedy (without overwhelming, a testament to Farrell's increasing dexterity at the time). The fantasy elements--the witchcraft "instant gratification" and Isabel's flights of fancy regarding love and prospects of a normal "messy" life--contrast nicely with the supposed reality elements--Jack's self-centered Hollywood cynicism, his shameless (yet charming) agent played by Jason Schwartzman, and the team of studio role-players assembled to get the television reboot off the ground. It's fresh and a little weird (in a good way). The cast is amazing, quite an ensemble, and Nicole Kidman turns out one of the most nuanced, quirky and original performances of her storied career. Genuinely funny and heartfelt, her Isabel is crucial to making the movie work. With the spirit of 60's movie / television nostalgia close at hand, Ephron, Kidman, Farrell and co. come together to craft a lovably unique homage to the era and the show itself. It may be silly, but I think this is a wonderful film!
Python Hyena Bewitched (2005): Dir: Nora Ephron / Cast: Nicole Kidman, Will Ferrell, Michael Caine, Shirley MacLaine, Jason Schwartzman: Based on the sitcom of the same name, it regards bemusement and surprise in our reaction or actions with others. Will Ferrell plays a failed movie star who agrees to update Bewitched but only in the condition that an unknown actor portray Samantha the witch. He discovers Nicole Kidman in a book store after seeing her wiggle her nose just as the character did. What he doesn't realize is that his discovery is in fact a real witch. Director Nora Ephron succeeds in creating a film that moves beyond the typical remake by creating a world view in which the program exists. She dealt with similar story themes when she made Michael. The production is bright but its witchcraft theories may offend certain viewers. Ferrell makes a great foil as an actor totally full of himself but Kidman steals the film with the innocence of Samantha who desires to be normal. Michael Caine is excellent as Samantha's father who constantly informs his daughter that her powers is her normality. Shirley MacLaine is superb as a fellow actor / witch who will be matched by film's end. Jason Schwartzman plays a scheming agent whom is overheard by Kidman regarding a filming process. Unusual approach to bringing Bewitched to the silver screen but the result is bewildering entertainment. Score: 8 / 10
shominy-491-652355 What makes this movie so wonderful and exceptional is that it is not a typical attempt at a remake of a classic hit TV series - in this film, the characters are actors making a "Bewitched" remake! Very clever! Will Farrell plays Jack, an egotistical actor, desperate to have a hit after his latest movies flopped. (Nora and Dela Ephron deserve a ton of credit for this creative storyline - it's the most clever remake of a hit TV show ever!) Shirley MacLaine is hilarious as Endora! Nicole Kidman is wonderful, believably naive and sweet, suddenly thrown into the harsh reality of Hollywood. Steve Carrell as Uncle Arthur is utterly hilarious and one of the greatest highlights of this excellent movie! Carole Shelley as Aunt Clara is a delight! Kristen Chenowith is awesomely funny (and adorable)! Heather Burns is fantastic! Nicole, Kristen, and Heather have a great chemistry as friends and their scenes together are so enjoyable. We love every second of this film! We have seen it about 15 times and always find it fresh, clever, charming, and oh-so-funny! This will always be our favorite Will Ferrell movie and our favorite Nicole Kidman movie. The scene where Isabelle (Nicole) and Jack (Will) are dancing during Steve Lawrence's smooth rendition of the hit song, "Bewitched," is wonderfully romantic and fun. This film should receive more than 10 stars!! P.S. If you are a die-hard classic TV Bewitched fan, watch it with an open mind: Will Farrell is not Darren - he is Jack, an actor hired to play Darren in a "retooled" remake of "Bewitched". Nicole Kidman is Isabelle, a new actress hired to play Samantha. This film pays perfect homage and respect to the original classic TV show. Everyone should be able to enjoy and appreciate this ultra-clever, very funny, very quote-able, often hilarious, endlessly creative, absolutely amazing, surprisingly sincere and romantic, sweet film. (Wish Hollywood could make more funny, sweet, sincere, romantic movies like this!)
