Synopsis

An Innuit hunter races his sled home with a fresh-caught halibut. This fish pervades the entire film, in real and imaginary form. Meanwhile, Axel tags fish in New York as a naturalist's gofer. He's happy there, but a messenger arrives to bring him to Arizona for his uncle's wedding. It's a ruse to get Axel into the family business. In Arizona, Axel meets two odd women: vivacious, needy, and plagued by neuroses and familial discord. He gets romantically involved with one, while the other, rich but depressed, plays accordion tunes to a gaggle of pet turtles

LouHomey From my favorite movies..
Cleveronix A different way of telling a story
Kidskycom It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.
Bumpy Chip It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Irishchatter People say this movie was the best but I think it's pretty messed up. There was too much whining constantly in each characters and like we are seeing A - List celebrities Jerry Lewis, Faye Dunaway and Johnny Depp being involved in this! I think storyline is so badly wrong, there is lot of whinging about being cougars and sugar daddies yet then they are imagining a fish which is meant to be sacred! That's like trying to catch a fish for dinner, never mind worshiping it! I am really disappointed with this movie because I was so looking forward to seeing Jerry Lewis and Johnny Depp teaming up. It just looks like it didn't work out for me that I didn't enjoy it nor liked it regardless if they were there or not!
Victoria Fisher If this movie were my dream, I would say that it is absolutely crazy and I wouldn't want to dream this again. Seems like this movie has a lot of story lines and I would like to say that too much. One moment I'm trying to understand one scene, but it's quite difficult because there are more than one story lines in one scene. Everything would be fine if those story lines were very clear, but they weren't. Actually, some scenes seemed silly for me. I love mind blowing movies, but this one... Yes, it is mind blowing, but I can't say that I liked it. I think it is too far from reality. Yes, this movie helped for Johnny Depp, helped to grow up like an actor, helped for his career path, but only he can say why and how, because I can't understand. Axel (Johnny Depp) was very passive character. He kept a close watch on everything. This movie balance between reality and fantasy. Personally, I prefer reality... By the way, some scenes looked unnecessary. Plot is too wide. Of course, this is my opinion. Watch this movie and make your own decision.

Why someone called this a "european" film when it was filmed in the US is beyond me. Johnny Depp without the faux brit accent is a boring Depp. It reminds us he's not such a great actor.Jerry Lewis is a jerk.
cmoxinou alright, i have a question for you guys:what is with the dog theme? i was watching the movie and i noticed that there are many scenes where there is a dog around and it is often barking or it is just there. It seems to me that all the time there's a dog hanging around. Does it show something like the existence of dreams or anything? does it symbolize anything or is it just... there?! I also want to know what exactly the dreams Axel has mean. For example when the fish he sees goes and bangs staff around, like the cars or that thing he builds for her to fly. what does it symbolize (if it symbolizes anything).(i'm supposed to write a minimum of 10 lines so i will just write staff for a while. Don't pay attention to the contents of this bracket and just try to read what i wrote on top. Thank you very much)
