Cubussoli Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
Claysaba Excellent, Without a doubt!!
Pacionsbo Absolutely Fantastic
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
dandbone The thing I loved most about this one is the way they did the interaction between Briareos and Deunan. The two used to fight together and they were lovers. Briareos almost died in a battle and the only way to save him was to make him into a cyborg. While that is all well and good for fighting, it changes completely the relationship between the two. Both are obviously frustrated with the impossibility of being lovers again while their feelings for each other have not changed much. I think the beauty of this movie is that tension between the two main characters. The story is not really original, but it's coherent. The animation is great and the action sequences are sometimes brilliant. My favorite is the first battle scene.
priyantha-bandara This certain type of a futuristic sci fi animation is mostly scene from Japanese animation studios and most of them are literally mind blowing. They carry purely creative futuristic settings, technology, action and eye popping details to start with. Though most of the serious sci fi fans will despite the plots in most of them still they are the kind of movies that will keep you engaged for a long time if you are a fan. Appleseed (2004) is one of such wonderful animation movies from Japan and first one of its trilogy. And it's based on the comic book by the creator of Ghost in the Shell (1995).Appleseed follows the earth after the 3rd world war which has almost wiped out the entire economic and social system as we know now. And the world is completely in ruins and several groups keep on fighting for their territories. The war is taken over by high tech machinery and only the bravest fighter's fights in flesh in the front. And in a distant place a Utopian society exists in harmony with humans and human like half machines knows as bioroids. Worrier Deunan is bought in to this peaceful society from the action packed front line to realize that her known to have disappeared boy friend Briareos also lives there and he is also a different kind of half machine half human right now. Deunan starts to wonder what purpose she can serve in this society when she soon realizes that the battle for mankind is far from over.Appleseed has simply jaw dropping quality animation. It will be the first thing that would grab the viewer from the throat and then the action kicks in. The animation is a mix of 3d and 2d graphics which gives a certain blended beauty. Though this type of action and animation is witnessed earlier Appleseed does it really well. The viewer gets to engulf in a deep and thoughtful plot which reveals with solid explanations to the technology and rational of its existence. If you're watching a subtitled version this section can be a bit tiresome. (I have seeing both subtitled and English dubbed so I know this for a fact). Though the plot is not perfect it is quite good for a war based action sci fi and it's entertaining enough. With limited character development and superficial plot Appleseed has the potential to fail. Yet I feel like it had done a good job in most legs though it is not perfect. As I have now seeing the trilogy in full I certainly admire it more. This is a good start.
KinderParty This may or may not contain spoilers so eyeballs beware? Comparing this movie to past anime movies this movie blows those others away, mostly in visuals audio and character development/plot. It was a little weird going from hand drawn frame by frame anime to full CG like in this film. The way they did the CG makes it look like they had like CG bodies and hand drawn textures wrapped around the bodies(meshes), which makes it cool looking. its not like FF spirits within where they try to make it as close to reality as possible. In Appleseed the bodies are locked in place, what i mean is there's no out of bounds animation where the peoples bodies stretch or change with their emotions like in other anime films where you have a big head all of a sudden then the next scene its normal. To me thats childish and kinda ruins the feel of those old school animes. The character movements are based off real people doing the motions, giving it a realistic fluid motion like a real human would. which is awesome. The audio by far was pretty damn good. Whoever did the audio editing/mixing was a pro. Seems like surround sound, but i was using headphones. Just the ability to have a pre-made piece of music from some other artist, and blend it to the action and vary its pitch its crazy. Its like the music was made for the movie, maybe it was, i don't know. The character development was good too. If you have weak "eyeballs" you might cry when you see some scenes. So be warned.Overall I'd very highly recommend that you see this movie. Most visually stunning anime style movie i have ever seen (finial fantasy movies make their characters real looking, this one is like anime style cg) The squeal is coming out in 2007 in japan I hope its as good as this one if not better than this one.
MrVibrating With nice cel-shaded graphics and fantastic CGI in a nice blend, Appleseed will not disappoint the eye. There is enormous attention to detail, reflections, shading and other small things. Many of the scenes, especially involving the giant city complex, could have worked as art if you froze the frame. The story is pretty unoriginal though, which is a shame. I won't tell you anything, but it's likely you'll see references from a wild collection of sources. Characters have varying depth, and some felt like they needed a bit of fleshing out. Lip-sync was so-so and the same goes for most of the voices(in Japanese).Music is cool and futuristic, with a few surprises thrown in(Basement Jaxx? What the?) and fits the scenes nicely. Sound follows the same pedantic attention-to-detail pattern as the animations. The action is very, very cool, even though it's not a pure action fest. While the storyline doesn't feel too much like Manga, the animation really is. Manga eyes can be bugging, but it was OK. The transformer-esquire mechs where really cool even though they were very similar(then again, I've never watched Transformers). So, in closing, is this worthwhile? Sure. It's storyline is not so complex you need to scratch your head, like other anime(Akira or Final Fantasy), and the animation is a feast to the eyes. Give it a try.
