Chatverock Takes itself way too seriously
Nessieldwi Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
adonis98-743-186503 Deep into a solo voyage in the Indian Ocean, an unnamed man wakes to find his 39-foot yacht taking on water after a collision with a shipping container left floating on the high seas. With his navigation equipment and radio disabled, the man sails unknowingly into the path of a violent storm. All is Lost boasts thanks to a terrific perfomance by Robert Redford in the main role but also basically in the only role in the film and he actually holds the entire movie on his own just like Tom Hanks did in Cast Away. I'm definitely recommending this film for everyone.
s-waring84 I dont usually write reviews, infact i've never actually written a movie review before, but this movie seriously compelled me to write one! Now im no sailor, in fact, ive only ever been on a boat a handful of times in my life, but i can see the glaringly obvious mistakes Robert Redford's character makes.. Firstly, who has a shave right before a storm breaks out whilst you've a hole in your boat? he then puts the emergency storm rig on WHILST the storm is in full swing. surely you'd do that before a major storm hit? His character then gets dragged into the water and at which point im actually hoping he drowns as his stupididly is beginning to wear on me. Robert then hops back on the boat and puts his rain hood up due to the storm and it's raining .. after just being completely submerged in the ocean.. just stupid... I got 35 minutes into this movie before i had to turn it off and write this review. Awful awful movie!
wmolony It was ALMOST too much. What could go wrong did go wrong. From one thing to the next it was a little unbelievable, but you have to stay watching hoping he comes out ok in the end...still not sure if it's a plausible story line or just multiple true stories combined into one drama.
HotToastyRag Everyone who reads my reviews knows I don't have respect for the Academy Awards anymore. If you still revere and watch the Oscars every year, you need to watch All is Lost. Robert Redford, at seventy-seven years old, stars as a shipwrecked man fighting for survival. He's the only actor in the entire movie. It's a virtually silent performance. He wasn't nominated for an Oscar, the same year Tom Hanks wasn't nominated for Captain Phillips. What does it take? For love of Robert Redford, I sat through this ocean-set film. I'm deathly afraid of water, so it was very difficult and there were times when I covered my eyes. I can imagine that, if I wasn't afraid of water, the movie would still be extremely tense. This man is stuck on a tiny boat in the middle of the ocean and faces more obstacles than anyone in the world ever should—the dire peril he's in is always keenly felt by the audience. From running out of drinking water to getting surrounded by sharks, he fights during every scene to survive.Next to The Great Gatsby, this is the best performance of Robert Redford's career. With pretty much no spoken lines, no name, and no background to his character or situation, he manages to bond with the audience and capture their emotions. Watch this movie. I haven't watched the Oscars since.
