Pluskylang Great Film overall
Numerootno A story that's too fascinating to pass by...
Hattie I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.
Rexanne It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
jimbo-53-186511 Chazz (Brendan Fraser), Rex (Steve Buscemi) and Pip (Adam Sandler) are wannabe 'rock gods' who are collectively known as The Lone Rangers. When their first attempt at plugging themselves at a local record company fails, they decide to hold the head DJ at a local rock station hostage until he agrees to play their song; only the thing is the guns that they are armed with are actually water pistols.Part of the problem with this film is the general approach that has been used; in some ways I liked the idea of three wannabe musicians wanting a shot at fame and that ticket to future stardom. The problem with this film is that the writers have made the three wannabe rock stars unlikeable which kind of made me not care what happened to them. OK perhaps if they had been hard-working, reliable and conscientious then the storyline perhaps wouldn't have worked as well or been as believable, but the film would have held my interest more if they'd have at least had some likability about them. The story is also painfully thin and repetitive and the picture also doesn't have much in the way of tension to it; the police cave into the band members demands (regardless of how ridiculous they may be) and you feel that more in the way of 'conflict' between kidnappers and law enforcement may have made the picture more enjoyable. The lack of substance with this picture is even more evident when you realise that the film has no real social commentary to it either; a smart satire will at least having some subtext to the daft material that is presented to its audience - the idea of society failings these 3 individuals by not giving them the break that they deserve. However, by not giving the characters or story any kind of depth then it does feel like a very dull and long one-note slog (despite the fact that it only runs for 90 minutes or so).It isn't all bad though and there are one or two funny moments; I quite liked the part where Beavis and Butthead phone the radio stations and there is a joke about the group being called The Lone Rangers (which is clearly contradictory), but sadly examples of this kind of thing are few and far between and in all honesty, for the most part, I found it dull, repetitive, and at times rather annoying.
kdr-32415 The movie is awesome! Brendan Fraser, Steve Buscemi and Adam Sandler all show great chemistry together. Follow that up with endless cameos from a couple of Ghost Busters, Lemmy, Kramer, Farley, Rob Zombie etc etc, and you've got yourself a great cast. The jokes are well written and unforced. Though childish at some moments,(But aren't we all sometimes) this movie keeps the laughs coming. You can really tell that the actors and the writers loved the music they were writing about. The detail and thought put in to it is very commendable. Right down to some of the lesser known metal band stickers inside the Lone Rangers tour vehicle/pool cleaning van. It may be over 20 years old but the plot is still pretty relevant. Watch this movie if you haven't already.
Chris Myers When i first saw this on Movieplex one Sunday morning, i couldn't turn away from the TV. it was nonstop hilarious. i think this is Brenden Faser's best film. i loved this movie because it stars three comedic guys and its in the 90s and i love 90s movies. after watching this film, it made me wanna go out and start a band. every time i see Steve Buechemi, he is funny but in this movie, he really stands out. i love this movie so much that i'm gonna watch it again! i just cannot express how funny this movie is so you'll have to check it out for yourself. i am so glad that i found this movie because if i didn't, i'd really be missing out on a classic 1994 film.
Neil Welch Airheads entertainingly tells an amiable story which captures the attention and interest throughout its running time. Wholly improbable, this doesn't matter - one enjoys the company of most of the characters, and one is (as intended) annoyed by the duplicitous station manager and the idiotic gung-go SWAT chief. It isn't actually that funny, mind you, but it's still entertaining. And it's notable for early appearances by a fair number of people in the early stages of their careers before they became major successes. Each of them plays somewhat contrary to the types they have subsequently become known for, and each shows signs of the stars they are to become. Steve Buscemi must get the nod for favourite performance, though.
